Hey peeps!
HOTM has officially passed a hundred votes!! Woohoo🎉💃!!
I'm so happy, and to add to that I'm off from work this week, which hopefully means more updates. This is my way of saying thank you!
I hope you like the chapter!

You may continue....

Darcy's POV.

I always felt it would be hard to make friends in a new school, especially because it's my senior year, but as I walk out of art class waving to my new friends, I don't think it might be that hard after all.

It's Friday, and I have two more periods before my lesson with Daniel.

I can't wait.

Over time, the more I thought about everything the more I blamed myself. I always felt like I was never enough. There were so many other girls, so many better choices, and I would always ask why he picked me. He would tell me the same thing every time I asked.

"Because you're you."

How could I have been so stupid? Why did I fall for him so hard and so easily?
How could I not have seen the signs?
Maybe because he was so good at lying that I never saw any,- but still...

It's all my fault.

And I've sworn never to let him get that close to me again.

Despite the fact that I despise him, I won't mess up my chances of getting a good grade.

Just as I'm about to leave my locker, Jace corners me.

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

"Can't I just suddenly want to see my friend without having a reason?"

"Well yes. But I have a feeling that you do have a reason, don't you?"

"Yeah, you're right." He says, not bothering to put up a fight.

"So...what is it?"

"Well I know you're still kinda new around here, and you don't know many places....I was just wondering if you'd want me to show you around a little. There's this nice cafe down the street. They have the best coffee. And muffins too." He rushes out, all in one breath.

"Mel's cafe?" I ask.

"Yeah," he says slowly, "How'd you know?"

"I've been there a few times." That place had become sort of a safe haven for me.

He still looks a little confused so I explain, "The girls and I have been there together. They are the ones who introduced me."

He nods. "Well, we could go somewhere else. There's also a pretty good ice cream shop not too far away, that is if you want to check it out?" He asks and for a minute, I think about bailing on Daniel.

"I'd love to Jace, but I can't. Rain check?"

A look resembling hurt passes across his features, but before I can decipher what it actually is, it's gone, and is replaced with a smile.

"Rain check."

****
The bell rings and we all rush out of class. Instead if immediately starting to enjoy the weekend like most students, I have to go meet with my tutor.

Yay.

I quickly text my mom that I'm spending some time with my friends. She doesn't need to know that Daniel is here.

Ten minutes later, I'm at the local library. Funny enough, it's far from what I imagined it would be.

It is huge, with massive oak doors, intimidating and enchanting at the same time. It looks like it has been here for a while, and that alone makes it more breathtaking. I step in, breathing in the homey scents of books and wood. I haven't been in a library since we moved.

And yes, I like the smell of books. I am weird.

I take my time looking for Daniel since he said he was already here. I look at some books, taking some along with me. Finally, I see him sitting in a corner with glasses on.

He wears glasses now?

You don't expect him to be the same guy he was years ago, and even you have to admit that he's hot. My subconscious snips and I frown.

I never said that.

You don't have to.

I ignore the voice, and I go to walk towards him when he looks up.

"You're late." He says as a matter-of-factly.

"Yeah I was just,--" I start, but then I remember who I'm talking to. "A bit distracted." I say harshly, sitting down. He looks from me to the books in my hands, a knowing look in his eyes.

"Look Dar, I--" He starts, but I cut him off.

"Stop. Number one, do not call me that. You lost the right to do that a long time ago."

He goes to say something, but I raise my hand, silencing him again.

"Number two, I am here for you try teach me, nothing else. If you divert from the topic, I will leave." I warn.

He stares at me, as if trying to decide whether I was bluffing or not.

I wasn't.

He shakes his head, running his fingers through his hair before replying.

"Fine." He sighs, and I eye him warily, before taking my note out of my bag.
