Summer, autumn, winter, spring. The season comes and goes as it always had. Elizabeth had never put that much interest on it. But this year, she had kept track of the changing seasons before she realized it.
The muted, colorless world felt a bit brighter with her presence.

Elizabeth worked silently in her office, with the sound of pen scribbling against paper filling the air. The faint sunlight peeked through the thin curtain, providing a hint of warmth through the chilly air. The curtain briefly fluttered, pulling her eyes as she glanced outside. Through the window, she could see nature had started to regain its vitality as greenery began to push past the veil of snow that had grown thinner with each passing day. A breath of spring had begun to blow through the veil of winter.
She hadn't been the kind of person who looked forward to the change of seasons. To her, it merely meant the change of weather and temperature. The colors washed away in the winter as the world endured the cold, before returning in the spring along with its warmth. Naturally, that change wasn't something she had to look forward to. As long as it didn't bother her work, she would simply persist through the change—that was all there was to it.
But recently, she began to anticipate the changing seasons. Her eyes would occasionally linger on the scenery outside her window, noting the spring that slowly crept into the world. Her view on spring hadn't changed, so why did she start looking forward to it? Not a lot of things had changed, not ones that would be related to the season, at least. Before she realized it, her pen had stopped moving, filling the office with silence.
Knock knock!
A few knocks rang from the door before it opened without giving Elizabeth time to respond. She knew only one girl with such a habit. Her gaze moved toward the black-haired girl who just entered her office. With just one look at the vibrant girl, the corners of Elizabeth's mouth upturned slightly. The girl in front of her was one of the changes that made its way into her life recently.
Nerissa greeted Elizabeth with a cheery tone, "Hey, Liz! Wanna hang out?"
Elizabeth flashed an apologetic look after hearing Nerissa's invitation as her eyes landed on the unfinished work on her desk. Although she would love to spend her time with Nerissa, she couldn't ditch her responsibility to do so. All she could do was speed up her work so she could finish everything early.
Noticing how busy she looked, Nerissa replied, "Oh, you still have some work left over? It's fine, I can wait. Can I stay here while I wait, though?"
Elizabeth nodded her head as she allowed Nerissa to rest on a chair next to the curtain. Knowing that Nerissa was sitting in the same room as her brought a wave of warmth onto Elizabeth while she continued to go through her work. They had been together for a couple months by now, and her presence had become something that she looked forward to.
As Nerissa made her way to her seat, her expression brightened as she noticed the scenery outside. She opened the curtain, bathing the office with sunlight. Her eyes peered through the window, taking in the sight of early spring.
"You've been having this kind of view all this time? Woah, I'm getting pretty jealous," Nerissa clamored by herself while she continued to gawk at the scenery.
Her acclaim left Elizabeth with a wry smile. She barely ever took in the scenery that she had in her office. To her, it was just something that broke apart the monotony of the room and the work that constantly plagued her. Well, until her recent interest in glancing outside, that is. That aspect of hers still puzzled Elizabeth.
