The hospital room no longer looked like a place meant for healing. It looked like a battlefield disguised beneath luxury and white hospital lights.

Wu Suowei sat stiffly near the bed while anxiety clawed deeper and deeper into his chest. His eyes unconsciously drifted toward Chi Cheng again. The man sat carelessly against the sofa scrolling through his phone with looking completely detached from the disaster surrounding him.

But Wu Suowei knew better than anyone else that Chi Cheng never wasted effort on meaningless things.

Why are you so desperate to know whether I remember you or not...

Every time Chi Cheng looked at him lately, memories he had buried years ago kept crawling back out no matter how hard he tried to force them down again. And the worst part was that Wu Suowei still reacted to him instinctively, like his body remembered things his mouth kept denying.

I'm already trying this hard to forget you again... Why are you making this impossible...

His fingers slowly tightened around the blanket covering his lap.

Then his gaze shifted toward the hospital doorway where several nurses and patients had gathered again pretending not to stare inside the room. Their expressions ranged from curious to frightened.

Wu Suowei's temples immediately started throbbing harder.

For once in his life, he wanted peace.
Not memories chasing him like ghosts he could never outrun.

But apparently peace could not exist anywhere near Chi Cheng.

Beside him, Xiaoshuai slowly leaned closer before whispering carefully near his ear, "Da Wei... what exactly is all this? Why is he doing all this for you?"

Wu Suowei's shoulders stiffened faintly.

Xiaoshuai glanced nervously toward Chi Cheng before lowering his voice even further. "Do you actually know him?"

The question made Wu Suowei swallow quietly. For one dangerous second, he almost answered honestly.

Yes. I know him so well that forgetting him nearly destroyed me once already.

But instead he only exhaled slowly and lowered his eyes. "I'll explain later, Shuai," he murmured quietly. "I know this whole thing looks insane right now. Honestly, it is insane. But I promise I'll explain everything properly later."

Xiaoshuai stared at him silently for several long seconds before finally sighing. "I trust you."

The simple sentence made guilt twist sharply inside Wu Suowei's chest.

"But still..." Xiaoshuai continued more quietly while glancing toward Chi Cheng again, "don't get too involved with that person. He's honestly terrifying."

Wu Suowei's eyes unconsciously shifted back toward Chi Cheng again.

The man sat there lazily with blood near his lips, expensive black clothes wrinkled from fighting, eyes lowered toward his phone while looking completely indifferent to everyone around him.

Terrifying? Maybe to everyone else.
But never to me.

How could Wu Suowei explain that the man everyone feared most had once held him so carefully like he didn't care about his own life over his? How could he explain that no matter how dangerous Chi Cheng became, Wu Suowei had never truly been afraid of him even once? How could he ever explain that the monster everyone feared was the same man who could stop Wu Suowei's heart with a single glance?

In the end, he only lowered his eyes and gave Xiaoshuai a faint nod, quiet and reassuring, as though none of those feelings had ever existed at all.

Wu Suowei slowly looked around at the expensive stuffs.
