PROLOGUE

since beginning of time, Man has had a fascination with the creation and origin of the world. what brought it? was it science? some chance reaction? No... the story goes deeper... deep into the heart of mythology...

there was once an ancient myth which proclaimed that there were hundreds of ancient gods, each with children, some immortal, others human. the ancient gods would rule the natural forces, leaving only Man's own will to themselves. and soon the Immortal line was lost into the earth, and humans created generations of humans, and the myth soon became nearly extinct.

But... it prophesied that soon the godly line would reemerge, and the once-humans would be purified and sent up towards the heavens, and become true gods.

but who are these humans?

CHAPTER 1--Friends and Foes

"For God's sakes, Olivia, hurry up!"

i ran with all my heart, a stitch forming in my side. i was out of breath. why was i always late? did it have to be like this all the time?

Elissa was trying her best to wait for me, but she obviously didn't wanna be late either. i wanted to shout to her, tell her to leave me, but i felt like being selfish and evil.

Hey! people aren't gods, they're flawed.

the bell started ringing, and i collapsed onto the ground. Elissa ran back to me and sat down as i lay face-down on the concrete.

"tell Mr. Logan i had a heart attack and died," i told Elissa.

"Olivia, shut up," Elissa said.

"go on without me! i'll be fine! don't worry! i'll make the sacrifice, i'll take the bullet to the chest for you."

"Olivia, why are you using corny dramatic lines?"

i got up. "i thought it'd sound cool."

Elissa gave a quiet giggle. everything about Elissa is quiet. her laugh, her voice, her personality, even her dress sense. Right then she was wearing this long, white skirt with a soft pink top and pink flats. she'd let her golden-blond hair frame her hazel eyes. she is one of those sweet, kind girls who are real pushovers.

it's good i'm her best friend. i'm tough, and sometimes mean, and i'll always fight for myself... and Elissa. my hair is black, my eyes green, which Elissa says is really rare and really lucky. She'd know. she's really smart, the smartest girl in the class.

"Elissa, you'll miss class," i said. "Mr. Logan will notice your absence."

"Nah, our first class got canceled."

i stared at her. "our first class... got canceled?"

"yep." Elissa smiled.

"And you made me run all the way from my house?"

Elissa kept on smiling. "you need the exercise."

"I NEED THE EXERCISE???" i got up, trying to hide my smile. despite her shy personality, Elissa and i loved to tease each other.

"damn right you do."

i whipped around. it was Victoria and her gal pals (in other words, her slaves and followers). she's the popular girl, incredibly talented at singing AND acting. she's also super rich and kinda pretty (who am i kidding? she's hot). talk about making ordinary girls like me feel bad.

"Why, Olivia, your clothes don't fit anymore? now you have to wear your brother's?" she asked with a smirk. i'm guessing she was referring to my track-pants and t-shirt. Victoria, on the other hand, was wearing an extremely tight and extremely short white mini skirt and a turquoise strapless top with high blue-green boots. some people have tons of money to spend on clothes.

Victoria was mean to people for the fun of it, and especially to me, because i always fight back. but somehow, (i don't know how) she always manages to win.

"Victoria, that skirt looks really expensive," i said. "did you have to cancel a nose job to make sure you could buy it?"

Victoria narrowed her eyes at me. "my skirt costs more than your whole house."

"my house?" i asked. "the one you're dying to get into? or more specifically, my brother's bedroom?"

Victoria growled and swished away, walking fast. Victoria's been after my older brother Jay FOREVER, and i'm not surprised.

Jay's popular, and cute (i have to admit), and a really nice guy, although a little overprotective of me. he's way too nice to get wrapped in Victoria's tentacles. i'd make sure of it.

"Olivia, wanna go over to the benches?" Elissa asked.

i nodded. "sure, Elissa." i was still watching Victoria's back. no way in hell was she gonna date MY brother.
