Qhuinn wasted no time finding the liquor cabinet and pulling out a large bottle of Jack. He contemplated getting a glass, and decided since he wasn't taking his drinking habit to the privacy of his own room, a glass would look a bit better. He took a seat at the breakfast nook in the corner and started in on the bottle.
The situation with Blay was getting worse instead of better. He had intended to win back their friendship, but it had spiraled out of his control. The bonding had thrown everything into overdrive. He knew he had to put a stop to it before things went too far for either of them to recover from. Easier said than done. Every time he was around Blay, touching him seemed so...natural. Like he was supposed to touch him. Fucking bonding.
The creaking of the door pulled him from his thoughts. The long blonde hair and lean figure clued him in on the woman's identity. Marissa. Butch's mate. She was wearing a pair of plum yoga pants and a matching tank top.
"I didn't know you worked out," he said, making her jump and spin to face him, causing the open jug of water to spill onto the floor and counters.
He went over to help her clean up the mess since he had been the cause of it. "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you."
She shrugged before smiling at him. "You getting shot has made us all a little skittish." She put a gentle hand on his. "Blay's really lucky to have you."
Qhuinn quirked an eyebrow.
She chuckled. "I had a feeling you wouldn't believe me, but you should."
He rolled his eyes.
She held her hands up in surrender.
After Marissa left with her refilled bottle of water, Qhuinn continued to think about her kind words. He couldn't decide what she meant. Was Blay lucky to have him as a friend? Perhaps. Lucky to have Qhuinn as a lover? Qhuinn doubted it. His skills in the sack were about the only positive thing Qhuinn could bring to the relationship, and Blay deserved more than a good lay.
Qhuinn left the kitchen, bottle of Jack in tow, and headed to his room. His intentions were to get thoroughly plastered so he could shove all these thoughts and problems to the back of his mind for a while. However, when he entered his room, he realized his plans would have to wait. Someone wanted to chat it seemed.
"What do you want, V?"
V glared at him, warning him to drop the 'tude. "I figured I'd offer you some words of wisdom before you went and did something stupid...again."
Qhuinn rolled his eyes and went to sit on the bed. "If this is about Blay, we'll be fine. We can get around the whole bonding thing---"
"No, you can't."
Qhuinn shook his head, not wanting to let that kind of doubt in. He had to find a way to control all the emotions the bonding heightened. It was the only way.
"Bondings happen for a reason, Qhuinn."
"Yeah, to complicate shit."
V smirked at him and shrugged. "True enough. But that's not the only reason." He leaned against Qhuinn's dresser before he continued. "Bondings occur to make two people realize they're meant to be together. We vampires, and warriors in particular, are stubborn asses who have a tendency to shut down emotionally when we get hurt. And you seem to be no different than the rest of us damaged souls. Our mates are our other half. They are the key to putting our battered souls back together." He got up as if to leave. As he grabbed the doorknob, he turned back to Qhuinn. "If you let Blay go, you will leave the both of you forever damaged. You will never heal, Qhuinn, and neither will he."
With that last bullet to the heart, V opened the door and left Qhuinn to his increasingly depressing thoughts. He rubbed his temples before he took a swig from the bottle. It seemed everyone was on board the Qhuinn and Blay train, except for Saxton and...himself? And now Qhuinn had another guilt-trip on his list. Now, he faced not only an eternity of heartbreak for himself, but he would be causing Blay the same life-long torture by denying their bonding. The only thing Qhuinn could solace himself with was the thought that Blay would someday find happiness with someone better suited for him. According to V, that would never happen...with Qhuinn alive.
