"Hey Jessica"
I stood by her lone desk just outside Jason's cabin, away from our cubicles. She wore a white dress shirt and black pencil skirt and matched it with black stilettos. Her usual loud makeup is replaced by a soft natural look accentuating her already sharp features.
She looked beautiful, beautiful than me and it didn't go well with me.
"Oh My God! Amy! How are you? Are you here to see Jason, just a second."
Before I could cut her, she picked the phone on her desk and spoke, "Hey Jay! Look your little wifey is here to see you. I'm sending her in."
My eyeballs socked out of my pockets. I looked back at the interns. I sighed in relief as none paid attention to us and were lost in their files. I turned back to Jessica, scowled at her.
And did she just call me his little wifey!
The people here already dislike me, thinking I used contacts and references to get this internship. I don't want them to know about me being married to Jason.
Jason's door opened, he looked at me and Jessica confused. I crossed my hands at my chest and glared at him.
"Both of you in my cabin now!" Jason shouted and closed the door behind him in a loud thud. I rolled my eyes looking at his acting skills.
Jessica looked at me confused but I went to his office and she followed me behind.
"Jessica" Jason pressed the bridge of his nose walking up and down in his room. "Amy is one of the interns here and we both don't want anyone to find out about our wedding."
"Or that we both knew each other," I added glaring at her trying to intimidate her as much as possible.
"Oh sure," Jessica shrugged her shoulders. "But why? Can I ask?" She looked curious.
Jason looked at me and I deepened my scowl, spitting fire through my eyes.
"No, you can go," he said in a low voice. His shoulders dropped as he came and sat beside me on the couch.
"Sorry, I forgot to tell her beforehand." He huffed out.
Does he think that's my worry now?
"Don't you think you forgot to tell me something?" I crossed my hands and turned my face away from him.
"What?" He looked confused.
"About Jessica working here?"
Duh
"Hey, I asked you at the wedding, remember? You were cool about it.'' He said indignantly.
I just can't believe it!
"I was cool with you going to talk with her for a few seconds, not you hiring her as YOUR secretary." I stood up from the couch and took a few steps away from him, balling my fists.
"She is Charlie's secretary, not mine." Jason came and stood in front of me giving me a sheepish smile.
Does it hurt if I smash his idiotic face into the glass walls?
"Come on kitty, you are acting like a typical wife now."
But I am your wife!
I want to yell these words at him but didn't find the voice in my throat. It's like a huge boulder is placed in my throat stopping my voice.
I can't... with him now!
I walked towards the door leaving him all confused. "Amy wait, we are not done."
"Ohh I am so done here. I have work to catch up to.'' I yelled at him and banged the door in a loud thud behind me.
All heads snapped at me. Oh no! Day 1 and it's going to be a long day. Cheers to 3 more months of this stupid internship.
"Are you okay?" Jessica's soft voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Yes," my lips pressed into a thin line looking at her. I turned back my head to my table and left to my seat ignoring Jessica.
*****
"Hey, are you okay?" The girl next to me shook me by my shoulders when I'm lost thinking about all the things I should have shouted at Jason.
Damn once I'm out of the scenario I remember all the points that I should have argued like a lawyer.
"Yes, I'm fine. Why does everyone ask me the same thing?" I snapped at her.
I've reached my saturation point because of this guy.
"Because you are breaking your already broken pencil lid." She pointed out. "It's okay cool, I'm sorry if I disturbed uh your thoughts or something " she raised her hands as if backing away.
One person decided to talk normally here and I just blew up on her. I took a few deep breaths.
"I'm sorry that I snapped at you. Do you want to grab some coffee with me? I need a break right now, very badly." I let out a deep breath.
A break and a friend to survive here!
"Yeah sure"
"I'm Amelia" I stretched my hand for her.
"Cynthia" She smiled with her light brown eyes beaming at me and shook my hand.
****
"Can you believe it? He appointed her as his secretary!!" I shouted into the phone.
"Geez calm down Amy. You look like a jealous wife!" Ryan said with his voice laden with a tease.
"Come on man, it's not about me. Like doesn't he feel awkward? She is his ex, they dated for 2years and are the star couple, and then she cheated on him, SHE CHEATED ON HIM"
"Okay"
Why does no one understand my point?
"Did you forget what happened to Jason after the breakup? He was depressed... He was drunk all the time not knowing the difference between day and night." I hollered at him pacing around the living room.
"I dont understand how you yelling all of this at me really helps but I think you should talk with Jason if this bothers you," Ryan said patiently.
"It doesn't bother me but I'm just thinking how any of that isn't bothering Jason."
"Listen, Amy, if you didn't like Jessica working with Jason then you should talk with him, tell him what is bothering you," Ryan said calmly into the phone.
"Wow, thank you for such nice advice," I replied dramatically stretching the words out.
"Amy..." Ryan tried to calm me down but I cut him.
"Bye shithead" I hung up my phone and switched it off.
"Who are you talking to?" Jason walked into the house loosening his necktie and his suit coat wrapped around his arm.
I ignored him and sat on the couch flipping through the tv channels.
"Hello" he plopped down on the soft next to me.
"Amy" He waved his hands in my face but I let my gaze linger on the tv screen.
"Did I die? Am I a ghost now? Can't you see or hear me?" He acted all dramatic.
After a couple of minutes, he gave up and went to his room to freshen up. I finished my dinner by the time he is back and went back to my room. I actually feel like smacking his head on the wall so excuse me for sparing him.

"Hey Frederickson, wanna join elite constructions with me?" I asked Zack before he rushed to his part-time in a cafe.
"What as an intern for MBA? No thanks, Amy I will pass." Zack chuckled thinking I'm joking.
Our rest of the friends looked like I have grown 2 heads.
"No, I heard they are looking for a college student as a part-timer for administrative associate or something!"
"Come on! Elite Construction is a big company, why would they hire a college student as a part-timer when they can hire anyone?" Reeva asked me looking skeptical.
"I dont know. I got to know about this vacancy and told him thinking he would need it." I told them packing my bag.
"You should give it a try man," Kevin told Zack placing his hand on Zack's shoulder.
"Nah I think I will pass it" Zack shrugged his shoulders.
Reeva jumped up on the chair and placed her hands on her hips shouting, "Zack, you are going to that interview and giving it your best. Later don't whine about working all the time to pay your college tuition fees."
She tried to intimidate him and I think she succeeded because I saw Zack gulping down in fear.
"You don't know it's complicated," Zack sighed with his shoulders slumped.
"Nothing is important than paying your tuition fee," Mandy said.
"Come on Zacky, I'm going insane in that place. Do you know it took a lot of courage to ask Peter about this job?" I blurted out.
"You did what?" All of them shouted back at me. Thank God the classroom is now empty.
Oopsie
"I know I'm sorry that I lied to you. I just want to help you so I asked Peter if my friend could get a job here."
Zack looked so pissed right now that he refused to look me in the eye, he clenched his fists his breathing turned irregular.
"That's wonderful! Then it means he already got the job." Mandy clapped her hands.
But, now looking at Zack, I dont think he will take up this offer.
"Hey look. I saw you working all the time trying to make your ends meet and then studying. For the first time in years, I have seen you like this, changed for good. I want to help you but you don't want to take the money that I want to lend you. So I'm helping you as a good friend with a better job opportunity, where the pay is good and you can get time to study too."
Zack's face softened a bit and then he looked at our other three friends who also wore the same face pleading him to give this job opportunity a try.
He sighed, ''okay''

"You need to go to the 6th floor. Don't screw up the interview. Come find me on the 15th floor and tell me how it went. Okay?" I ordered Zack on the ground floor waiting for the elevator.
"Aren't you coming?" Zack asked me looking confused. The office lobby is bustling with people who are going to lunch and coming back from lunch. I missed my lunch, I should stop by the pantry and grab those cookies. I sighed.
"Jones, you are zoning out again." Zack snapped his fingers in my face.
"No, I'm claustrophobic. I can't stay in these tightly packed elevators for 15floors." I shuddered.
"Don't tell me you are going to climb 15floors!! Come on I will keep you company and help you stay relaxed.''
"No Zack, please" I whined as he gripped my wrist.
"Nothing doing Jones, as a good friend I'm not allowing you to climb 15FLOORS to death. If you are not comfortable we will get out on the next floor."
This idiot taking his revenge! And at the same moment, the elevator stopped with a ding. I looked around and we are the only people waiting to get in. After the people inside got out we stepped in.
Zack plugged one of his earphones in my ear where soothing music is playing. He never left my hand and asked me to close my eyes and concentrate on the music.
I heard the elevator making a ding sound and stopping many times in-between as people came in and went out. Each time Zack whispered next to me, "Keep your eyes closed and listen to the music."
He tugged my arm and I snap opened my eyes to see we've reached the 15th floor. Wow, this is simple.
"See" He beamed at me.
"Yes, the reason you had to work here help me get in the elevators. Tell me how it went." I pushed Zack back into the elevator. I walked to my desk and plopped down on my seat.
Ughhh 1week already and I dont know what I'm doing here.
"Here, check these books. They might help you understand the concept more." Cynthia placed a few books on my desk.
"And my notes, can you photocopy it and give me back by today or tomorrow." She gave her handwritten notes with key points too.
"Thank you, Cynthia, you are a lifesaver." I felt grateful for her, she understood my situation and tried to help me as much as possible.
"Hey did you get the gossip?" She asked while I was checking through her notes.
I raised my brows at her asking what.
"Mr. Brown and his assistant are high school sweethearts. They are each other's, first love."
"What? Who told you that?" I asked shocked.
"Everyone was talking about it. Didn't you see the way she called him "Jay"... She is the only one who didn't call him Mr.Brown."
Oh, Cynthia! I hope you knew how bad my blood boiled in my veins in the past week, every time she called him that in front of all employees, throwing coy smiles his way.
I bet the jerk is enjoying this patch-up session with his ex! He isn't that bothered that I'm not talking to him for a week now. He tried a few times to talk and then left me alone.
*****
I stood near the elevator waiting for Zack who is coming to our floor. Can't the idiot text me if he got the job or not! I stood biting my nails.
"Did you get the job?" I asked him even though it's already set that he will be given it.
"Well hello, there colleague" Zack smirked.
"Yes," I threw my hands around him, wrapping him in a hug.
The exact moment the elevator opened with a ding. Jason came out with Charlie and Jessica. He frowned on seeing Zack.
Zack nodded at Jason and got a curt nod at back. Jason left with confused Jessica and Charlie to his cabin. Jessica kept turning back and glancing at us twice.
Jeez, look where your going woman! I dont want you to bang into him!
"What time are you finishing here? I will give you accompany in the elevator." Zack asked me.
I turned to him changing the scowl on my face to a smile. I saw Jason stopping in his tracks from the corner of his eyes. He stopped at the intern's desk as if looking over their work.
"I will finish in 30minutes. You dont have to wait for me."
"Nah I dont mind it. I owe it to you." Zack replied.
The next moment I heard Jason's voice muffling my reply to Zack, "I want each intern to come and give me the review on the project they got."
He turned to Charlie, "Send them one after one" His furious eyes flicked to me and Zack and left to his cabin in long strides leaving everyone confused.
"He doesn't like me" Zack chuckled next to me.
"Well, then it's his problem, not mine, not yours," I replied indignantly.
