Chapter 1

A silver-haired man with slate-blue eyes came to sit at the table across from me. He couldn’t have been older then 29, and he was startling beautiful. He cleared his throat to get my attention, I paid him no mind, and then he spoke,

“Neykra, I wish I could tell you that everything is going to be okay. But I can't. And I wish I could tell you that our Lord will let you come and go as you please. But that is clearly not the case, and you can't.”

“Why do I have to stay here? Why can't I leave? Am I not trusted?” I questioned tilting my head to the side, letting my long salt-and-pepper hair fall from in front of my silvery-white eyes.

“It’s not that you can't be trusted but more of the fact that there are people that want your life,” he said standing and coming to my side. “You are the eternal being. Our Lord’s sooth-sayer. We need to keep you alive and well.” He said running the back of his hand across my copper cheek.

“Really, so I am here for my own protection? Unbelievable,” l said leaning away from his touch.

“What would that be, Neykra?” he questioned.

“What is your name? Since you clearly know mine,” I said ignoring his inquiry.

“Nicholas, is my name and I will be your official guardian, you are not able to get or go anywhere with out me,” he said exposing the sword at his side.

“Wow, you gonna be there when I wipe my ass, too?” I questioned smiling, “Huh, Nicholas?”

Nicholas looked away and a smile flickered across his gorgeous face, “No, ma’am I will not be there but right out side the door in case any thing goes wrong.”

“Wow, ma’am, do you know how old I am?” I questioned standing directly in front of him.

I wasn’t as tall as he was, I was shorter then him. I only came to his chin he looked down at m. a smile in his slate-blue eyes; his eyes were almost daring to test my patience.

“No, humor me, how old are you?” he said his minty breath on my face.

“I, my naïve protector, am 23,” I said softly, “eternally I am 23.”

“How old would you be if you weren’t eternal?” he questioned.

“I don’t know. That’s something you'll probably never find out,” I said touching his cheek then brushing a strand of loose hair from in front of his face.

I stepped away from him and went to lie in the large bed in the room. I didn’t calm the room to be mine, nor the bed. I saw myself as a visitor in this world. I was one of few to be given the gift of foresight. In some lands, I would be queen; but here I was more like slave, to be kept locked away in a tower.  Not knowing if the world was falling to shambles or if I was going to be executed for a prediction that had came true. Whether I was loved or hated by a Lord, who was afraid to step foot outside of his own castle with out the protection of several very heavily armed men, was still a mystery to me.

“Are you going to sleep, Neykra?” Nicholas asked sitting in the chair beside the bed.

“I guess, what time is it?” I questioned.

“Almost 9:45 p.m., Miss,” he replied.

“Yeah, I guess, that it is about time to get some rest, where are you going to sleep?” I questioned him slowly rolling over to look him in the eyes.

“By your side. I go where you go. You are my new Mistress. I will guard you with my life. I will be right here when you awaken,” he told me softly, reassuring my worst fears, I was never going to escape him.

“I don’t care about that. But where will you sleep? You can't sleep in that chair all night,” I told him getting out of the bed.

My long floor length gown was kind of constricting as I tried to pull the top mattress off of the stack of four.

“I will be fine,” he said sternly.

“No you won't. And as long as I am here you will not be in uncomfortable sleeping condition because of me. Now you can help me get this mattress to the floor.” I demanded him.

“Yes, Mistress Neykra,” he said getting up with no hassle.

Nicholas stood next to me and in one swift movement yanked the top mattress to the floor, knocking me to the floor. The force he put into it sent me sliding across the room and into a small table in the corner of the room. A giggle rose in my throat, as my head fell to my chest and I began to laugh loudly. Nicholas came to my side to help me off the floor.

“Are you alright, My Lady?” he questioned extending his hand to me.

I lifted my head to look at him. His icy blue eyes held concern. But once he saw my hysterical laughing face, he lightened up. He smiled then started to laugh with me. I grasped his hand, and with so much strength, he pulled my petite body into his. He continued to smile, a beautiful sight.

“You have such a free spirit, My Lady,” he said looking into my silvery-white eyes.

            “Thank You, Nicky,” I smiled

“Nicky,” he repeated then laughed, “If you don’t mind my asking, why are your eyes this color? I’ve never seen anything like them,” he said rubbing his thumb over the upper part of my cheek.

“My mother told me it was because I was innocent and pure and until my innocence is taking these will be my eyes,” I said softly.

“It’s rare to find a pure woman of your age,” he said stepping away.

I could tell that Nicholas was now very uncomfortable being close to me. I took a deep breath and walked over to the bed.

“Ummm…so you can find some sheets for my be right?” I questioned changing the subject.

“Yes, My Lady, give me a moment and I’ll change the sheets for you,” Nicholas said starting out of the room.

“Nicky,” I called to hi, he turned to address me

            “Yes, Neykra,” he answered.

“The bed needs sheets on it, not a change of sheets,” I said looking over my shoulder at him my eyes fixed on his face. I could see him shiver from my intense gaze.

“Yes, of course, how could you change something that never was?” he questioned.

“Simple. You can't so there is no point in trying,” I told him.

Nicholas put the sheets on the bed in record time and after mere moments; I was laying in bed with the cover pulled up to my chin. Nicholas was on the floor by my side and there he will stay until I awaken.
