"One thing you can taste," he breathed.
The fog in my mind had completely cleared. I lifted my head, suddenly aware of how close we were. We were wrapped up in each other on the floor, our faces only inches apart.
His breathing had grown shallow. His dark eyes, which had been full of worry, changed. They drifted down from my eyes to my lips, lingering there for a heavy moment before looking back up at me. The look in his eyes was deep and full of affection-a quiet intensity that made my heart beat in a completely different way.
Nervously, caught up in his gaze, I bit my bottom lip. There was a small, dry cut there from earlier. The pressure broke it slightly, and a faint, metallic taste hit my tongue.
"My blood," I whispered, the words quiet in the stillness.
A charged silence fell over us. The rest of the world completely vanished.
He didn't pull away. He leaned in, closing the last bit of distance between us. Looking into my eyes, he pressed his lips to mine.
The kiss was soft and careful. His lips simply met mine, resting perfectly against my bruised mouth. He just stayed there, breathing me in and letting the warmth wash over me.
