I V A N

Assuming that people strive for your attention is one thing. Knowing it- is different. I never live in a delusion. So when Yuki Hayashi pretended to strike up a conversation with me, I skipped the preliminaries and invited him to Alchemy. Though he tamed his surprise, the speck of doubt remained on him. It was good to know that he trusted my intentions as much as I trusted his. But he wasn't going to miss this opportunity- he accepted my generous offer and had been frequenting the lounge since last week.

I try to avoid Alchemy in its busy hours. And I learned my lesson last time when this clumsy girl spilled her drink on me. To be honest, it made me mad. To have your time and clothes ruined by the fault of someone else always gets me on edge. But that day, I hadn't uttered a single word to her because I suspected that she might shatter if I even much as stared hard. Or worse- would burst into tears. I haven't seen someone's skin turn pale and flush so pink on cheeks so fast. The look of fright in her doe eyes blared with her innocence. She was someone who shouldn't have been there.

I sat by the bar counter in Lucas's gaming room, feeling unwanted by him though I did receive an invite pleading and begging for me to hang out at his apartment. He has been giving me the cold shoulder since the moment I brought Yuki along to the lounge and refused to explain. It wasn't also helping for him to see his sister and the other girls warming up to the Japanese boy at an impressive pace. Even the new grumpy redhead that's joined at hips with Ivy Hughes laughs at some of the impulsive jokes he makes. Which bothers Luca very much. As I hoped it would. I am a terrible friend. I am aware. I should be banned from their life.

"My Father is getting married" Luca tosses the controller aside and takes a hefty chug of his drink. Astor who has been competing with him drops his switch on his lap and watches Luca with a guarded concern.

"Again?" It was involuntary- but Damien who stood by the pool table with Aaron asked with his cue stick aimed at his mark. Luca doesn't answer- and I am mentally counting the numbers.

"Fourth" I declared. "And they also get younger every time"

Instead of getting angry- Luca chuckles. It suddenly makes sense why he needed us here. He needs the distraction that we provide by being only permanence in his life. As turbulent and chaotic he can be, deep down Luca yearns for permanence. And it makes him weak. Any thought, aim, feeling and person that promises to stay is nothing but an illusion. It's all a lie. I don't believe in forevers- I don't even believe in the next morning. My father can marry a giant alligator and I wouldn't care less.

"She is couple of years older than Luna" Luca grunts, the door opens and the girls stroll in. All three of them. Minus the female version of Astor. Piper floats to Astors side and his lack of pursuit is not enough to discourage her. Luna halts when she notices me- and like always she chooses to migrate towards Damien and Aaron.

"What are we having for dinner?" The loud younger sister of Damien raises a very good question. I don't like having company around at my place- I like the peace. So I cook my meals. But Sometimes it's nice to have a change of hands.
