Four days later, the plan was in motion.
The tension in the cave was suffocating, a collective weight pressing down on everyone as we prepared for what could be the final move in this twisted game Thalia and Bane were playing. Gotham wasn't just a target to them—it was a symbol. A battleground for control, chaos, and something far more personal.
And we were walking into the heart of it.
I stood at the center of the command table, staring down at the holographic display of Gotham's underground. Taerynn's intel had been precise, like it always was. She'd managed to map out the League's movements through the city's sewer systems and abandoned subway tunnels, pinpointing where they were likely staging their operation. It was ambitious, even by Thalia's standards: a coordinated strike on Gotham's infrastructure, aiming to paralyze the city and leave it defenseless.
"This is where we hit them." My finger hovered over a blinking red dot near the Narrows. "It's the main hub for their operations. If we can shut it down, we cut off their access to the rest of the city."
"What about their endgame?" Kaldur asked, his voice steady despite the tension. "We know they're not just trying to destabilize Gotham. Thalia always has a larger plan."
"She does," Taerynn said from across the table. Her voice was quieter than usual, but the steel in her tone was unmistakable. "This isn't just about Gotham. It's about control. Fear. She wants to break the city the same way she tried to break me."
I glanced at her, my jaw tightening. She looked better than she had days ago, but the shadows under her eyes hadn't faded. She'd been pushing herself harder than anyone, digging through her informant's intel, cross-referencing it with League patterns and historical data. It had paid off, but at what cost?
"We focus on the hub first," I said, pulling the conversation back to the mission. "It's the keystone of their operation. If we take it out, we force them to regroup. That'll buy us time to figure out what they're planning."
"And if we're wrong?" Artemis asked, leaning against the console with her arms crossed. "What if this is just a distraction?"
"Then we adapt," I said firmly. "But we can't afford to wait. They've already taken out two substations and an emergency water supply depot. If we don't act now, Gotham's going to collapse under its own weight."
Connor frowned. "This feels too easy. They've let us get too close. What if they want us to find this hub?"
"They do," Taerynn said, her gaze fixed on the map. "Thalia not gonna make this easy for us. This is one hundred percent a trap."
The room fell silent, the weight of her words sinking in.
"Then we'll have to outthink her," I said, my voice cold. "We hit them hard and fast, take out the hub before they can react. If it's a trap, we'll deal with it."
