Evans' finger hurt. It was annoying. Really, it was just enough that the pain pissed him off. Every time he reached for something, the hulking bandage on his finger caught on something and sent shooting pain up his finger.

Kei had woken him as he'd left that morning by kissing his cheek as he'd hurried out the window.

Evan had mumbled his goodbyes tiredly.

His Mom had stuck her head in at some point, questioning if he was okay. He'd just shrugged and held up his finger, not getting out of bed.

He was still convinced the whole ER trip had been pointless.

They'd done an x-ray to confirm the pinkie finger was obviously broken, then the other finger a little bit, wrapped it, which he was convinced that with determination, Evan could have done himself.

Six hours they'd waited, for a fucking finger.

Evan couldn't imagine how Kei and Ethan were even functioning during practice right now.

Throughout the day, the team group chat was alight with plans for the next weekend.

Evan had no idea how to feel about it. It was the team's lake trip. It happened every year at the two weeks before prelims mark when the school had Friday off. The entire team shipped themselves off to Oliver's family lodge at the lake for the long weekend.

On one hand, he could spend the entire time with Kei, but on the flip side, he wouldn't have a moment alone, and he'd have to spend the entire time pretending he wasn't obsessed with Kei.

It was just after lunch when Kei called him.

"I'm fucking falling asleep in English," he rasped down the phone. "I'm trying to wake myself up in the bathroom right now."

"You did only have like an hour of sleep," Evan reasoned.

Kei groaned, "Fuck this."

"Was Dan at practice this morning?" Evan questioned, wondering if the fire alarm got them.

"Yeah," Kei sighed, "But not for long. Coach was so pissed off at him, benched him until after prelims for breaking into the gym. Ethan snitched on him too, said he was the one that broke your finger, so he's out for ages."

That sent pleasure curling in his gut. "Nice."

"Practice without you sucks," Kei mumbled, "Since Luis was one of the guys locked in the gym last night, he's also benched, so Coach swapped him with Callum, Hugo's setting for you and Alex is on libero." Kei groaned, "We were in shambles without you."

"I can play next week," Evan said slowly, "Then it's only afternoon practice till the weekend anyways."

Kei sighed, and he heard a rustling noise down the phone before Kei spoke again, "Yeah, still— how's the finger?"

Evan frowned, "It's more annoying than anything, I keep knocking it."

"Ouch..."

"It's fine—"

"Are you sure you'll be—" Kei paused, and Evan heard a noise from his end, "Man, sorry, gotta go, can I see you later?"

"Yeah—" Evan smiled.

"Cool, bye—"

Then, Evan settled back into doing absolutely nothing. It was actually somewhat nice. His schedule had been so packed the last few weeks.

They'd still over reacted with the ER visit, but hey, at least he got a free day out of it.
