Chapter 8

After the press conference Happy had taken Tony and Leida to the stark industries building that housed the large scale arc reactor that Tony based the one in his chest after.

Tony looked a little overwhelmed after talking to the press, so Leida decided to let him have a moment to himself, opting to wait by the car with Happy as he took a smoke break.

"I try?" Leida asked, pointing to the cigarette in Happy's hand.

"Huh? Oh! No this... this is uh not for kids. Bad for ya." Happy fumbled through the words, slightly caught off guard.

"If bad for you, why eat?" Leida shook her head in confusion.

Happy scrambled for an answer before giving up and stomping out the cigarette with a sigh, making Leida smiled.

The girl's head turned as she heard the sound of wheels crunching on gravel. Obadiah Stane rode up on a Segway and slowed to a stop in front of Leida and Happy.

"Where is he?" The white haired man questioned.

"He in building. He has too much in brain now, maybe need some minutes." Leida tried to answer, wanting to make sure Tony wasn't interrupted before he could get himself feeling calmer.

"I can't understand a word she's saying." Obadiah said to Happy with a laugh before turning to Leida. "Maybe some English lessons would be a good idea."

"He's inside." Happy practically barked out as he sensed the disrespect to his boss's daughter.

Obadiah ignored the man's tone and strode inside after Tony.

Leida frowned at the way she was spoken to. She didn't know if she had done something to offend the man. 'Maybe I just shouldn't try to speak if it makes people so upset' the girl thought to herself.

"Hey, you ever tried ice cream before?" Happy questioned, to which Leida shook her head no. "I'll make Tony get you some after this ok?"

Leida smiled softly at the man's kindness.

After awhile, Tony had come out of the building as Leida waited in the car. Happy hopped out of the driver's seat to meet Tony outside of the vehicle, speaking in a way that Leida couldn't see his lips move. Tony's face seemed to settle into a scowl at his words before he entered the car and sat next to Leida, talking excitedly about the ice cream she was about to get.

Leida had very much enjoyed something called a blizzard from Dairy Queen before Tony had instructed Happy to drive them back to his mansion. Tony was very excited to show Leida where she would be living from now on.

As they stepped through the large set of double doors to enter his home, Leida's jaw dropped; she'd never seen such luxury.

"Ya like?" Tony asked with a smirk. Leida nodded eagerly, head whipping around in different directions to take in all of the beauty of the house.

"You want to see your room?" Tony asked the girl and she nodded again with a large smile. Tony held back a frown at her nonverbal responses, he knew it was what Obadiah said that caused the return to nods and and one worded answers, he'd be having a discussion with the man later.

"Come on then," Tony said, leading the girl to her room which was placed up the grand staircase.

As Tony pushed the door open, Leida couldn't believe her eyes. The room was beautiful. Everything from the bed to the carpet screamed luxury.

"It's right next to mine in case you need anything, and I figured you'd want to go with me or Pepper to pick out your decorations. You can paint it if you want too; pink maybe?" Tony rambled on as tears sprang up in Leida's eyes. For the first time in her life Leida had a home. Her own room. A place where she could sleep without fear creeping up in the back of her mind. She was safe here.
