The last remnants of the face mask have just been peeled away from your skin, and the soft glow of your natural complexion earns another string of compliments from Zoey. Rumi still hasn't let go of your hand. She's holding it loosely now, her thumb brushing against your palm in a rhythmic, absentminded pattern. You don't mention it, and she doesn't either. The quiet closeness of it feels... nice. Comfortable.
The second Mira cranes her neck in Rumi's direction, however, Rumi pulls away faster than a lightning bolt, as if she's embarrassed to be seen.
You don't really get what's so wrong with friends holding hands, though.
Regardless, spa music still hums in the background, but now that the skincare is finally over, Zoey stands up with a stretch and sighs happily. "Okay, I'm hungry! Time to binge eat and watch some K-dramas!"
"Babe, you literally read my mind," Mira says, the corner of her lips curling up faintly.
You don't object. It actually sounds kind of great. There's something so cozy about being here in their apartment—the HUNTR/X apartment. Also, you don't really watch a lot of television on your own. Most of your time goes into tracking demonic energy, scouring the Honmoon for rifts, and doing your best to protect humans from harm.
But lately... well, you've been slacking off just a bit. Spending time with Jinu. Letting yourself be normal and actually socialize. And then there was that whole fiasco with Baby, of course. The confrontation still lingers in the back of your mind, sharp and raw, but you're hoping that chapter has finally closed.
Mainly because it was a pain in your ass, to be honest.
Anyway, you're better off not dwelling on that anymore. As Zoey busies herself with laying out snacks on the coffee table—a dizzying spread of chips, candy, spicy ramyeon cups, and a fruit tray for balance—Rumi speaks up.
"Wait," she says, making Zoey pause mid-bag-unfurling. "Actually, before we start watching anything, I thought it would be cool if we could show [Name] our new song. Y'know, the single we're about to release."
You blink, pleasantly surprised. "Oh, right. I saw the teaser for it. It wasn't very long, but so far, it already sounded really good."
"Well, we can share the whole thing with you," Rumi says, her eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. "I mean, we obviously trust you not to spread it around. What do you think? Are you interested?"
You nod right away. "Of course I am. I'd love to hear the full song. Actually, I'm really excited that I get to hear it before anyone else."
Rumi turns toward the others for confirmation. Mira seems hesitant at first, her expression as unreadable as ever, but she doesn't voice any objections. After a brief beat, she nods, probably realizing that you're keeping a much bigger secret than an unreleased song.
"She already knows about us being demon hunters," Zoey adds, grinning as she pops a piece of candied ginger into her mouth. "One song is no biggie, right?"
"Yeah, I guess you've got a point," Mira shrugs.
With that, Rumi queues up the track on her phone and connects it to the apartment's speaker system. The room shifts as the beat begins to pulse through the space—deep bass layered under airy synths, and soon rough, it's followed by the familiar harmony of their voices.
You sit back and let yourself be immersed. It's honestly even better than the teaser made it out to be. Their voices glide effortlessly over each verse, building together in perfect synchrony. The chorus is catchy and emotional, a blend of wistful and strong, and you find yourself smiling without realizing it. There's so much power in what they've created. But then again, there always is.
