Age: 19 years old

Character Background: Zhao Lian is the eldest daughter of a high-ranking, court official, Zhao Dao. Zhao Dao helped the current emperor onto the throne years ago during the fight for succession, so the Zhao clan is highly regarded by the imperial family, or so they think. Because of a court scandal/coup/scheme, the Zhao clan gets convicted of treason and the entire family is wiped out through a purge. Zhao Lian is the only remaining survivor.

Age: 20

Character Background: Qin Xun is the only son of one of the top generals of the entire empire, Qin Yansheng (General Qin). Qin Yansheng also has close relations with the emperor as he also helped get him onto the throne where he is. Ever since Qin Xun was little, he was placed under very high expectations to become just like his father. Undergoing countless tests and battles in order to prove his competence to two men. Tensions between him and his father got so bad that he split off from the Qin Army (his father's army) to form his own army, the Zhenyuan Army. The emperor agreed to it and since then, the father-son relationship between Qin Yansheng and Qin Xun had been horrible. As one final test before promoting him to the General rank, the emperor tasked Qin Xun to lead the purge of the Zhao clan. However, Qin Xun had always looked up to Zhao Dao as a role model from faraway, a good father figure that he was never able to have. Having to murder him, along with his entire family, scarred him for the rest of his life.
