I sat in my closet as I talked to Mae.
"So what did you do right after it happened?" Mae asked me
"I was shocked, but he was drunk then he threw up again. Walked into the bathroom, gargled Listerine again, then he just went to sleep in the bed." I explained to her
"Then when you woke up this morning?" Mae continued
I took a deep breath as I tried to remember what happened.
"I woke up before him and truthfully I didn't sleep much at all. Like I would go to sleep for thirty minutes then wake up for fifteen minutes. He didn't remember anything, he sat up and was so confused. He asked me where we were, I told him that we stayed over at your place because he was drunk. Weston looked into the garbage filled with his puke, told me that he regrets drinking, and the last thing he remembered was getting drinks with Luke." I told Mae
Mae nodded, "Well drunk people do stupid things, but then again a drunk mind speaks a sober heart. He obviously doesn't remember, just move on. Don't pressure him to remember, don't act weird. Where is he?"
"Down fricking stairs with my brothers. Like you're the only person I can talk about this to. I wish I had a sister who was Carson's age." I admitted
"Why can't you just talk to Carson?" Mae asked me
"He's best friends with his brother. I feel like it would just come out, you know? I don't know maybe I'll just - never mind I can't tell my mom. This is just between us, okay? I'm gonna walk up and down my driveway to clear my mind." I told Mae
Mae was eating gummy worms, "Want me to come over?"
"No, I'm fine. I have a lot of homework anyway." I told her
"I have a cleaning crew over right now my parents come home around seven this evening. Well my dad at seven, my mom at eight, I have to pick them up from the airport. I guess I'll do mine. Have a good day." Mae told me as I saw her getting up from her bed
"Thank you so much Maeisy Natasha Mitchell. I might call you later." I told her
She grinned, "Bye. See in a bit."
Mae hung up our FaceTime and I stood up. I put a sweatshirt on over my t-shirt, exchanged my sweatpants with leggings, then put Nikes on.
I walked out of my closet, took my hair out of the braid, and into a ponytail. I grabbed my earbuds and my phone then walked down the stairs
"Where are you going?" Luke asked as I walked into the kitchen
I grabbed a water bottle out of the refrigerator, "A walk."
"It's freezing outside." Weston added
I looked at my phone, "Only seventy degrees with an overcast. Are mom and dad still at the grocery store?"
Carson nodded, "The twins are in the game room, Mom and Dad bought Gabe."
"Alright, well bye." I told them I as I walked out of the side door
I put my earbuds in and started my playlist as I started my walk down the seemingly two-mile driveway. Why did I think that this was a good idea?
Apart of me was mad that he didn't remember, but another part of me was so happy that he didn't remember. It would have changed the way we acted around each other and I didn't want to be thirteen again.
When I was half through my driveway before I sat down just to breathe. I was sitting on the cold hard concrete and I just stared at the ground.
I had to forget that it happened, it was what was best for both of us.
