The ocean's waves at California's beaches were always good for surfing, and Charlie loved to surf. She would spend hours catching the waves. But when she meets a Merformer named Bumblebee, who has no voice due to a battle, her life around the ocean changes dramatically. She learns to read Merformers. She even learns about Bumblebee's feelings for her and discovers hers for him. But bonding and falling in love with a Merformer has its ... side effects. She meets the others after a transformation happens. Optimus, Bumblebee's leader and adoptive father, gives her a Merformer amulet that helps her control her transforming. Now stuck in two worlds-one in the sea and one on land-she must keep the location of the Merformers' hidden home and their existence a secret for as long as she can. But it turns out that the government knows about them. When a man comes proclaiming he wants to protect them and their home, Charlie tells him that it isn't up to her. It's up to the Merformers to decide on whether they will reveal themselves to the world after .... past events.
