This book contains two essays about Cochlear Implants. One of them talks more about risks, restrictions, and cultural factors while the other discusses more of the bullying side as well as a personal example.

A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that is surgically implanted in the inner ear to provide a sense of sound to individuals with severe to profound hearing loss who do not benefit from hearing aids. It consists of two main components: an external processor worn behind the ear and an internal electrode array placed inside the cochlea, or inner ear.

I think this book may just be me explaining things about my deafness and deafness around the world and that we're not all the same! This procedure is indicated for patients with perforations of the eardrum. An ear surgeon in Delhi might also perform an additional procedure called a cortical mastoidectomy to clean out infection or disease in the mastoid bone. The aim of the surgery is to heal the perforation in the eardrum and provide the patient with a dry ear and functional hearing. The success rate of this surgery varies between 85-90%. Post-operative care includes keeping the ear dry and avoiding any activities that might strain the repaired eardrum.
