This is a story about shattering into pieces and putting yourself back together. Slowly. Painfully.

The flames of Golothaer burned a sickly green tonight. From the high balcony of the Grand Temple of Lolth, Menzoberra Zan'Rae watched the city writhe beneath the cavern's ceiling, its spires and bridges shuddering with the cries of battle. Below, the faithful of the Spider Queen clashed with the cult of Ghaunadaur, slime-slick fanatics wielding oozing whips and dripping blades. The air reeked of acid and smoke; the clash of steel echoed like a ceaseless drumbeat of doom. Behind her, the sacred doors groaned open. Rodella, her eldest daughter, entered with a child clinging to her skirts - a girl with hair pale as her grandmother's and eyes still wide with disbelief. "Mother," Rodella said softly. Her voice was hoarse, raw from smoke. "It is done. The gates are ash. House Zan'Rae is no more."

A Drow, who earns a living by hunting down dangerous beasts and criminals, begrudgingly agrees to play bodyguard for a dryadic forest elf, as well as her son. The woman in question became a fugitive after accidentally killing the prince. She's running from the royal guard, and he's running from his need for love. There is danger everywhere. They will constantly face threats, persecution, and dire circumstances while they uncover the greater danger that is slowly building. Will they be able to protect each other from harm? Will they be able to destroy the plans of a rising evil? Will they allow themselves to love, even if their lives and their hearts are at stake? ____ Other Notes - This book is pretty vanilla. It'll get a bit steamy, but there is no smut. You can tell your mother it's clean :) There will be violence. The ML has many shiny swords. He will use them.
