Emotion is the root of us all. In everything we do, everything we say, and everything we are. To be human, is to be like fire. Destructive, unpredictable, yet easily contained. If you lose control, if you lack restraint, there can be disastrous results. Father always tells me that to trust in my emotions, is to trust in fire. That's what being a great fire bender means. And in times of war, a great fire bender is the most valuable asset to the nation.
The story of the Avatar is one that is well known across the world. A young airbender who vanished at a crucial moment in history, leaving the Fire Nation on a slow, but steady path to victory. A young airbender, the last of his kind, who reappeared after 100 years, and planned to defeat Fire Lord Ozai, and restore balance to the world.
What they don't tell in the stories, is the one of the Fire Nation girl, who wanted nothing more than to be a great general like her father. She wanted to fight for her home, and lead strong warriors into battle. She trained her whole life for it, she believed it to be her destiny, only to have it ripped away by reality. The reality of the war, and the gruesome truths that had been hidden from her, to keep her loyal to the throne.
The stories don't tell of Shae, that very Fire Nation girl, who defied her family and leader, and carved a new path for herself. One of peace, one of justice, and one of love.
