Düşük hapları, hamileliğin erken dönemlerinde, yani gebeliğin ilk 10 haftası içinde kullanılabilir. Düşük hapları reçetesiz satılmaz ve sadece hekim tarafından reçete edilir. Düşük hapları farklı etken maddelere sahiptir. Düşük hapı çeşitlerinden bazıları şunlardır: Mifepristone (RU-486) Ataşehir Düşük Hapı CytotecMifepriston, tıbbi adıyla "RU-486", bir kürtaj hapıdır. İlk olarak 1980'lerde geliştirilmiş olup, gebeliğin sonlandırılması için kullanılan bir ilaçtır. Mifepriston, progesteron hormonu reseptörlerine bağlanarak gebeliği sonlandırır. Mifepriston hapı, bir hekim tarafından doğru şekilde yönlendirilen, reçeteli bir ilaçtır. İlacın kullanımı, gebeliği sonlandırmak için tek başına kullanılabileceği gibi, misoprostol adlı başka bir ilaçla birlikte kullanılarak da uygulanabilir. Mifepriston, özellikle cerrahi müdahaleye karşı olanlar ve cerrahiye uygun olmayanlar için bir seçenek olabilir. Mifepriston'un yan etkileri arasında şunlar sayılabilir: karın ağrısı, kramp, bulantı, kusma, ishal, ateş, baş ağrısı, baş dönmesi, halsizlik, deri döküntüsü, vajinal kanama ve enfeksiyon riski gibi belirtiler olabilir.
