Josslyn lives alone with her cat in her studio apartment in Portland,Maine. Her life gets turned upside down when she realizes she's in love with her coworker, who she sees as forbidden. Follow her story as she navigates through life as a newly realized queer woman and society's standards for her and her own internalized homophobia. She struggles with finding peace with her faith and understanding that Jesus loves all. Josslyn constantly second guesses herself and the choices she makes and the feelings she has, causing her to label herself as the "unreliable narrator" of her own life.

April and I have gone to the same church since our childhood. You'd think we'd be friends since my name is June and, you know, irony. However she isn't much of a talker. Her whole family is sort of aloof. Her parents, Thomas and Alexandria are always the quietest but still help out as much as they can. Good people who always have a polite smile and a "I'm just happy to be here!" type of air to them. Oh and her parents are just perfect for each other. Alexandria mentioned to me how they met once whilst we were working in the church kitchen together. Met at an art museum, cute right? April is one of the sweetest girls you'll ever talk to. Out of the little conversation we've had I always leave thinking about it all day. Her hair is like caramel or maybe a cinnamon roll. She's never dyed it before but she's cut it all sorts of different ways. Gorgeous smile, pretty eyes, incredible style. I've always wondered why I'd never seen her out and about with a boy. One year a boy at our church, Linus, asked her out. She rejected him politely I'm sure but he tried to make it sound like she was some sort of villain. He used to be a sweet boy but turned evil at the hands of puberty. He's that kind of guy.

Griffin knew exactly who he could and could not be from the time he was in middle school. He could not be the boy that looked at other boys with engrossed attraction, no, that was meant for the pretty girls in his school only. He would not be that guy, no matter how many handsome boys his eyes would chase within the hallways. he did a good job of hiding behind beautiful girls until Keith Ellis moved into town and something like self-acceptance started to touch his heart in the midst of deadly circumstances. P.S. The story proceeds very slowly. The first 26 chapters of the story are basically all about Griffin - him losing his mother to cancer and him trying to date other girls to convince himself that he's not gay. He only meets Keith far into the story - in the 27th chapter.
