Marcus pursues his dream of becoming a skilled cavalry commander, scout, and tracker, the living embodiment of the Legion's eagle standard. But enemies are never far away. Men such as Herod of Judea and Pontius Pilate, who exploit the cousins' talents as it suits them, placing Victoria and Marcus as witnesses and key players in an execution that will leave its mark on them and the men of their family's Legion. Then, they face an even bigger threat from a crazed Emperor with scores to settle against them, their family, and their great-grandfather's legacy.

Cleopatra VII Philopator was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. A member of Ptolemy dynasty, she was a descendant of it's founder Ptolemy I Soter, a Macedonian Greek general and companion of Alexander the Great.

After the chaos of Julius Caesar's assassination and with Rome in disarray, people are desperate to restore order. In this alternate reality where marriage is encouraged to form alliances, no matter the couple's gender, both Octavian and Antony's families push for them to get married and put their rivalry aside. Both men begrudgingly agree, despite the fact that Octavian is nineteen and Antony is forty. Both of them struggle to relate in married life, but with enemies around every corner, they soon learn they need one another to hunt Caesar's killers down. This will mainly be written in Octavian's point of view, but will sometimes switch to Antony's.

After the Ides of March, Julius Caesar's grandnephew is called back to Rome to witness the will being opened. To the teenager's shock, the will states he is now Caesar's heir in name, money, and loyalty to his army. Marcus Agrippa is loyal to Octavian, the heir to Caesar's name and fortune. But he is loyal to a fault, which soon turns into infatuation for the young Octavian. Marcus Antonius thought he was going to be Caesar's heir, but the realization Octavian is heir instead leaves a bitter taste in his mouth. Hateful at the teenager for stealing his glory, he toys with Octavian, trying to win his favors. Both Antony and Agrippa desire to be on Octavian's good side; ranging from gifts to secret letters given to the handsome faced youth with the curled blonde hair. Alarmed and flattered, Octavian toys with the men back, playing in their wicked game. (Note: In this alternate history, Antony never falls in love with Cleopatra. Both Antony and Agrippa love Octavian, who has to decide between becoming the first Roman Emperor or the first Roman Pharaoh once Cleopatra and Caesarion are dead.)
