Maturing Stories

The kitchen still finds me first. Even now, years later, I see my mother at the sink - the graceful line of her back, the quiet strength in her shoulders as she washed away another long day. Rosewater and exhaustion. A woman who carried everything and never complained. Her warning became my gospel: "Don't let anyone dirty what you have, Ava. Love should come without bleeding." I puked from the punch in the gut groaning in pain trying to hide the hurt expression He growled in anger at me puking on his floor he put his boot to my shoulder kicking me over onto my back i tried to roll over to get up but he started to kick me in the stomach and chest causing me to cry out in pain as I pleaded with him " please father I'll do better next time I promise!" I said through sobs after about 10 minutes of abuse he finally stopped. I was on the ground coughing up blood and crying from the extream pain in my ribs "this is what you get Jacob after all your the reason mom is gone" my inner voice said in a mocking tone I pulled my self up and dragged my self to my room shutting the door as quiet as I can to not futher anger my father I slumped down on the floor where I had some pillows and blankets as my make shift bed

Faye grew up with a checkered past. A life full of regrets. High school drop out, pregnant at 17, no prom, clinically depressed, and a lazy stay at home mom. She has nothing but regrets for who she is and how her life has turned out to be. So when the pain gets to much and she leaves the kids with her husband and runs across the country to her hometown to visit an old flame things start to get crazy. When she returns home he followed her back. No matter where she turns he's by her side loving her, validating her and cherishing her for all the chances that he missed out on when they were younger. What could possibly go wrong? Oh and by the way he's a ghost!
