Despite its prime location in the heart of Luke’s Gospel, the parable of the Shrewd Manager is not popular – in fact many Christians are only even vaguely aware of its existence. Jesus’ statement in this parable, that His followers should “use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings” caused one preacher to declare, ‘This parable is clearly of no relevance to us today.’ It’s true that this is not an easy parable to understand, but to dismiss it would be a mistake. Jesus’ teaching here is essential for anyone who considers themselves to be one of His followers. This short Bible study seeks to work through this complex passage draw out the problem Jesus is addressing together with His solution, incentive for putting it into practice, and the real issue behind His teaching. ______________________________________________________ Published by Lundarien Press, UK Copyright © Phin Hall 2014 The right of Phin Hall to be identified as the author of this work has been asserted in accordance with the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 For more info and other books, go to: www.phinhall.net Unless otherwise indicated, all Scripture references are from the Holy Bible: New International Version (NIV) copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by Biblica, formerly the International Bible Society.

Many might see death and its companions (e.g. grief, depression etc.) as harmful experiences in life. But this story tries to tackle this perception and recount a story that portrays my view of death as an old friend that pays his visits not because he enjoys seeing you die, but because he cares about your transition. After all, life is what's killing us, death is just the observer, one that cares more about you than you might expect.

This story and those like it are similar to the parables told by Jesus- short stories meant to convey moral truths. In this story in particular, a young tree in a forest is surrounded by larger trees and has forever been the smallest tree for as long as it has existed. Ridiculed often and not big enough to defend itself, Little Tree lives in sadness. But the tides of fate in Little Tree's life take a turn when he meets one little girl one day...

It's the story of a young boy whose village was massacred and who escaped by running into the forest. The story is about how he tries to overcome his own disabilities to find his place in the world.
