Hyac didn't wait for the rest. She remembered when she was three. Tiny, curly-haired, and already armed with attitude:
"I like Dad more," she had said, smirking up at the giant sea god,
"At least he had mermaid kids."
Baby Hyac's sass had earned her a very slow blink from Poseidon, followed by a long, awkward silence that her mom had laughed at behind the curtains. Some things never changed.
