Happiness was this nebulous, dreamlike thing that Simon wasn't as familiar with as he could be. In order to ensure Markus got just that, for a whole week he conspired with Carl and Leo Manfred to give Markus the surprise of his life, and hoped that, in the end, it brought Markus the joy he so deserves. Simon doesn't realize that he's deserving of it too, but Markus is there to show him the way.
