Visible Stories

NOTE :This is a two part poem. If you skip the first part, the second part might not make as much sense. Stuck at a bottom of a hole with no light, hoping my signal will shine bright. I see you up there within my sight, but to bad none of us can help because we're both stuck in fright.

This a story for the writing competition: May The Words Be With You. My theme is cats.

The unthinkable has happened; the endgame has come, and there's no easy way to win. Sacrifice the lives and freedom of your subjects for a chance to save a lost loved one, or forever lose the one to your responsibility. He could only see the colors in people. She saw nothing but gray. He took life for granted. She captured life on camera. "One more smoke won't hurt." He would say. "One more smoke will bring you closer to the brink of death." She would reply. "Yeah? Well, maybe I want that." Was always how he ended it. It was odd how much they differed.

People often assume that to want is the same as to need. And that is where they are mistaken. There's a fine line between some things that point out there oppositions, their differences and their uniqueness from each other. The line between want and need is so visible, that it's actually quite invisible. To never judge a book by its cover was, I think , the perfect way to describe me. I am a visible disguise, one people can see, but not really see.

In an effort to help end the negative mental illness stigma and to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, I'm putting together stories from different people from different backgrounds that have suffered or know someone who has suffered from mental illness. This is also an attempt to show the way bullying can affect mental illness. I'm hoping this will encourage people to tell their story and know that they always have a person to talk to if they need it.

We've all had our inner battles, the fights that no one sees, the unheard pleas for help, and the unshed tears. Many of us know what it's like inside,but it's hard to put the pain into words. This is a story for all those who fight the inner fights that no one sees or hears. The battle is hard, the war seems never ending, and reality is frightening.

I used to be a loser. Seriously. I've lost a lot of battles against my emotions. The past few years, however, I've been fighting hard for my mental well-being, and I'm finally winning. It's been a rough ride, and it's not over yet! Come along on the journey through my past as I reminisce the events of my life that contributed to my disorder, and the steps I took to pick up the pieces after I broke. Memoirs of a Bipolar Winner is based on my past and personal experience. My hope is that it will be able to help other people who suffer from this illness, and remind them that they are NOT ALONE.
