For some reason, I can’t respond or see your comment, but I was in the same boat when I was younger. I never dreamed of having a job or career, and I definitely don’t live to work. I work to live, and that’s fine for me. Would I recommend becoming an accountant, absolutely, if you want a job that’s stable enough to let you explore other things in life.
Im going to preface this by saying, I am married and owned my own home since I was 21, so I might not be the best person to gauge off of.
I’m 25 now, my car’s paid off, I have 5k of student loans left to pay off, most of my bills are on autopay, and Im set to retire when Im set to retire at 47 if I want (probably not, but it’s nice to know). I travel 3 to 4 times a year, I take my friends in the weekends.
Hell, I even listen to smut and other audiobooks/ have Netflix running while working. Shit, Im at work right now typing this, so maybe that’s saying something, but I have my own office, so no one really sees me.
But there are many different routes you can take. I personally value not being stressed out, so I took the pay cut to leave public accounting (tax/auditing are the usually roles, but busy seasons was so ass) to become a trust fund/fiduciary accountant. But if you really like the money, go public to see how it feels. I was making 70k off the bat (I did an internship with them and got the offer), and by my last year I was making 87k, but my company was really good about increasing your salary along with inflation. Now I make 45k, but I work for a nonprofit with good health benefits, so that’s something.
I don’t know if this help, but trust me, you will find your way.
