@Fantasy If good and evil were illusions, then the guide to our future is going to be the morality or empathy, common sense, and the hunting/defense instinct, all that would create a decent but maybe not the best survival instinct. Since we're talking about if good and evil were illusions, the political systems would and wouldn't be a problem because good and evil were now technically the same thing, survival instinct would be my main guide with morality and empathy on the side.
If my guide were only morality and empathy, I'll be an easy prey for them who hunt for supplies of mine with either manipulation or direct attack. If I only use the hunting instinct, I would probably be a blood thirsty person. But to answer the actual question, what would truly guide my choices? I would say... It all depend on the situation.
Why depends? Why would you kill someone just to survive (psychopathic or because of just getting annoyed) and the person you kill can actually benefit both of us? Isn't that stupidity? (Well unless you can actually feel a betrayal inside them or a feeling that they might kill you...?). And, why would you stay with your empathy without any other instinct guide? What if it turns out there was a ninja following you to kidnap or kill you for a specific purpose? That's why everything depends on the situation, not everyone can mix all the instinct in one unless you're so good at them. We're talking about a survival guide right now, that will dominate our main guide. A morality guide will be on our side, because not everyone deserves morals.
