Hi everyone,
Chapter Three of Faithless Vows is now up, and I wanted to say a few things after reading through your reviews.
I know this book feels different from my others, and that’s intentional. This is a heavier story. The betrayal is real, and the pain runs deep.
Ronin was a difficult hero to figure out and truly understand. His sense of right and wrong is skewed, and the way he justifies what he does—especially when it comes to Alannah—can feel self-serving and convenient at times. That was part of the point. The era, the setting, and the ego of that time shape the way he thinks. Without that, I don’t think the choices he makes, or even the wedding sequence, would have carried the way they needed to.
This isn’t meant to be an easy read, but I truly couldn’t see this story unfolding any other way than it does.
I’ve also posted the prologue for my betrayal-heavy Regency story, With All My Heart, J. That one will feel more familiar if you enjoy my historical romances, but it leans more toward an old school "bodice rippers" style. I’ve always tried to soften my heroes within reason—no lairds crying in courtyards or dukes begging on their knees in front of half of London—so it will be a bit harder to swallow.
Alexander is a jerk. He’s wrong for a large portion of the story, convinced he’s been wronged and not particularly interested in being told otherwise. He’s proud, pompous, and very set in his ways. Josephine is everything he’s not—kind, caring, and easy to love—and their story is just as heart-wrenching in a different way.
I hope you enjoy the two new additions.
