Sharing this here too because this is getting tiring.
I made an announcement about this last year alongside several other users. Clearly, it didn't land the way it needed to, because here we are—same drama, same selective outrage, same people getting policed and bullied for things that were quietly accepted when the people being harmed looked like me. So we're doing this properly this time, with facts, with history, and with receipts. Because apparently that's what it takes.
What's happening right now?
The new Harry Potter series trailer dropped, and suddenly, everyone has a moral compass. People are flooding timelines threatening to block anyone who writes HP fanfiction, declaring that engaging with the fandom in 2026 makes you transphobic by association. People are ganging up on authors—including POC authors, and trans POC authors—who have been building something real in this space for years. Shady announcements are being made, and when people push back, they get shut down or dogpiled.
This is not solidarity. This is performance. And it has a history that people are very conveniently forgetting.
The receipts on JKR's racism—because you need to know this.
Let's establish something clearly: JK Rowling has been a documented bigot for a long time, and transphobia is not the first, second, or even third form her bigotry has taken. POC fans—Black fans, East Asian fans, South Asian fans, Indigenous fans—have been raising these issues for years. And the fandom mostly didn't care.
Here's what was already on record:
@ipseities I saw someone point out similarities to how Rowling portrayed Werewolves and vs how men with aids were treated and stereotyped in the 90's. Whether intentional on her part or not I found it very interesting (Here's the link if any1 wants to read :) https://www.reddit.com/r/EnoughJKRowling/comments/1fm4mcl/lets_talk_about_the_werewolves/)
@ipseities if voicenotes were available on this app, i could rant on and on about how this "black and white" perspective of morality has been INCREASINGLY prevalent, especially within us Gen-Z. Its the most reductionist way of thinking i've witnessed as of recently. Its a performance really, half of the time when i see it on my social feed, evbs just in a race of of who can be the most 'holier than thou', cancel culture as well has turned into a tool to ruin the images of people in the name of accountability. Its genuinely so infuriating everytime i see some bs on my phone. Everything is turned into a trend, the same popular and WRONG opinions to be followed, and then shoved away once rambling the same nonsense gets repetitive and discourse gets boring, moving onto the next one. And then when it comes to them actually needing to take accountability, the required actions, the real deal? drop that 'diffusion of responsibility" grenade right at you. god knows me and and my homies hate the "but im only one person i cant actually change anything about said situation". In terms of hp, this is is a group of people with a superiority complex regarding their morals, unable to actually or even WANT to do shit against JKR's many offenses and instead chosen to displace the "retribution" on something they can cause an effect to, doesnt matter if its negative and contradicts their very claims of their so called "morals".
@ipseities if there genuinely was a way I could repost this whole thread I would!
