after a year with the police force and seeing the truth he dropped it entirely to become a private investigator. he felt as if he could do more, faster with that sort of title. it was truly his natural calling.
when his daughter was born he took a brief leave of absence. to bond. to be there for his wife. that would unfortunately be the longest he spend at home. investigation didn't sleep, crime didn't stop. it kept him up. that partially why he turned to alcohol. a vice. everyone had one.
march was victim to an injury that took his sense of smell. so when a gas leak began in the house and his wife complained of the smell he looked. not finding anything she came to the conclusion that it was something else. unfortunately she was correct and their whole house would burn down, taking her life and leaving holland alone with his 6 year old daughter.
hit with grief and complete responsibility over little holly he took to drinkineven more than before. on the job, off the job. flask in his pocket.
as holly got older her and her father began to fight, he was no poster father either. sending her off to stay with her friends more often than not. it wasn't easy to swing rent, bills, keeping food on the table. it ended in him being sort of absent but he made the most of the time he had with her. after all she was all he had in this cruel, fucked up world.
