Death is a funny thing. It is something we all are gifted at birth, something that will so be inevitable to each living thing. We all know it exists. We all know the basics of it, though seemingly dreary and depressing. Even if you share absolutely nothing in common with the person next to you, you both share the same fate. Death.
Yet why do people try to avoid it? Do they perhaps believe if they run far enough death won't be able to catch them? As soon as you are born, your fate is decided. Whether it be 1 year on Earth or 96. You cannot run from fate. But here people are... trying to avoid the inevitable. In different ways, too! Scientists fumbling with strands of DNA. The horrified rabbit, desperately trying to scramble out of predator jaws. The cries of the innocent- begging they don't deserve their fate. Yet, on their deathbed, they will finally accept death as their true and only possible fate. This alone is worthy of a good chuckle. One might relate the scientists to an infant trying to put a square block in a circle hole. Or the rabbit like a child squirming and screaming at the dentist, a tooth needing to be pulled. You cannot change fate. You cannot change the inevitable.
Okay. Yes, I suppose it is only natural to be afraid of death. Humans have evolved to be frightened of things they do not understand. Of course, no one has lived to tell the tale of death. Sure, people have passed and come back... but they have not experienced the whole event of death. Only a meer, small trial. Those people are extraordinary, nonetheless. They have lived through death. They have the feeling of the spirit leaving the body imprinted in their brains. They faced the inevitable. Isn't that fascinating? Death- such a scary thing... and these people have lived through it.
I believe, as a species, that we need to adapt to the unknown. We need to accept that yes, there are things that we will never understand. We are not the creators of the universe, we are gods. We must accept this. I believe this will help us grow wiser and stronger as beings. Our offspring will be taught that death is not as scary as it seems. We are one planet in a galaxy full of billions. But the smartest things out there? Hah. Untrue.
And so I say this as a closing case; death itself is not scary. In fact, the way it presents itself is what I believe humans are truly afraid of and are avoiding instead. Ask the old lady on her death bed and you'll see. Just remember to come back and give me an apology.
