Ch.27
"Sia?!" You gasped out, hand clapped on your mouth when you spoke louder than you wanted. Briefly glancing around, you found Hoseok knocked out like a light, who was supposed to keep a watch on you. Others were thankfully asleep too, as you again moved your attention to Sia, who was hiding behind a tree a few feet away. You hurriedly stood up to face her completely. "Sia, is that really you? What are you doing here? Are you okay? Luna said you had gone missing! I was so worried!" You reached out to embrace her, only for her to stop you right away.
"If you cross this line, they'll get alerted." She gestured towards the lock on your left wrist with a wary look. Her words made you notice a faint green line glowing on the ground all around the clearing that no one else would have noticed.
"H-how did you...?"
"I know...," she sighed tiredly before pulling out a small bottle from her pocket. "How do I know, right?" Grabbing your wrist from across the magical fence, she poured the liquid it contained on the locks. The metal lock completely dissolved into thin air, freeing you from the shackles. You were pulled into her embrace before you could express your shock; the fence was dysfunctional now. "I missed you. You shouldn't have left like that." The tremble in her voice was enough to make you forget about all the questions. Your shoulders relaxed as you wrapped your arms tighter around her, breathing in her familiar scent.
"I never wanted to leave," you uttered out, a lump forming in your throat. You felt her rubbing your back in circles just like she did whenever you needed comfort. "But, I am glad you're here now."
She pulled away first, her eyes displaying thousands of emotions, none of which you could decipher. She knew you needed answers, and there was no avoiding it. After a few moments of contemplation, she finally spoke up, "We need to talk. Somewhere else."
You followed her without hesitation as she led you away from the sleeping figures. You waited for her to speak, only to hear her sigh, so you did.
"...Sia, from what I can see, you look familiar with this magic stuff, and it seems like you already know about the guys. What's going on?" You were holding back the turmoil inside you from screaming. Everything pointed towards one answer, but you didn't want to accept it. You didn't want to believe that Sia kept a secret so big from you.
She slowly met your eyes before taking a deep breath. "I just... Do you trust me?" That question alone was a stab at your friendship. The bond that kept you sane when everything else fell apart. The bond that kept you going in the most difficult times. The bond that kept you alive when you thought you were long dead. So who were you to question it? How could she question your trust? You affirmed immediately as if doing otherwise would risk something you weren't ready for. "Would you trust me if I said I hid my true self for your good?"
"What do you mean?" The way she was talking was only making you scared.
"You must have realised that I am an ellugo too." Yes, you did, and now that she said it herself, you couldn't deny the truth. Disappointed would be an understatement for what you felt.
"So you're with the guys too? To abduct and throw me in an unknown world because your royals said so." You scoffed, but not at her, at you, and at your life for what it has come to. A tear slid down your cheek as you smiled sadistically, keeping your gaze anywhere but at her when more of them fell.
"No." She stepped closer, wiping the tears away before you could. "I'm with you, not with them." She didn't pull her hands away, your face cupped between them, making you maintain eye contact with her. "They're not here to save you."
"But they said...they said—"
"I know what they said," her hands slid down to your arms now. You remembered how physically affectionate she was with you as she stroked your arms. "But it was only half the truth. Why do you think they didn't tell you about the royals' intentions? They crossed dimensions for you, but don't know the reason? Does that sound believable?" You shook your head slowly. "It's because the evil kingdom is theirs, Y/n! They want to take you for evil reasons." It felt like the air was knocked out of you as you stared up at her, who had her arms thrown up in the air like she made the biggest reveal of the century. "Wanna know why...
A bolt of flash tore through the cloudy night sky, momentarily lighting up the dark forest. Footsteps splashed through the puddles as a deafening roar of thunder soon followed. The figures stopped at an intersection, unable to make out the direction from which an infant's cries came.
They split their paths in search of the women who dared to go behind the Queen's back. Everyone knew that the lady had no chance of forgiveness when they were ordered to bring her back.
One of them caught the sound of footsteps further away. He chased after it and came face-to-face with the culprit, but there was no sight of the baby.
He captured the mother, but she didn't respond to any of his questions. He could have killed her just right there if it weren't for that baby in question. That made him take the mother to the royal court for her unforgivable crime.
The Queen sat on her throne with the most elegant goods anyone could ever see. Her aura screamed royalty as she pretended to give attention to the members of the royal court. The ministers suggested different types of punishment for the betrayer as she tuned them out. She was rather interested in that baby. She was lost in her thoughts when someone interrupted the royal meeting.
"I apologize for barging in without any notice, your highness." The guards bowed deeply as their leader continued, "But we have captured the culprit."
The ministers gasped and whispered among themselves when a lady with disheveled hair and dirty clothes was presented in front of them.
"Silence!" The Queen clapped her hands loudly to gather attention. When everyone became quiet, she thought to herself before speaking. "So you are the mother of the chosen child." Her eyes fell on the lady who had her eyes planted to the floor. She didn't dare utter a single word. "Where is the baby?" The question was directed to the guards instead.
"We couldn't find the baby, and she refused to answer any questions. She must have hidden her child."
"Is that so?" The Queen held a calm expression as she looked over the mother, but only got silence as a response."Then there is only one way to find out." The guards didn't have to wait for another command as they threw her into the dark dungeons. She never gave away the truth. Claiming until her last breath that her baby was gone.
"My mother... she sent me away because I was the chosen child from a prophecy and they wanted to use me?!" You furrowed your brows in disbelief. This was the most insane story amongst all the others. You could accept the existence of some magical world, you could even believe you were not human, but this? Anything but this! This was not a fairytale, and you definitely weren't the protagonist of it.
"I know this is too much for you, but that's the truth! I can't let you be used for their greed!" She huffed, placing her hands on her hips.
"So, w-what do I do now?"
A small, convincing smile formed on her lips. "Come with me. If I have your trust, let me take you to your real home, Vezgor," she continued, her expression downcast. "But if you think whatever I said was a lie, stay with them and go to Slewenia. The choice is all yours." You didn't have to think twice as you agreed to go with her. If you had your bestfriend there was nothing to worry about. She looked visibly relieved by your decision. Right away, Jungkook revealed himself, who was waiting for the conversation to end. His presence didn't shock you as much, maybe because you've had enough surprises for the day. He did look quieter than usual as he awkwardly greeted you, as if he was embarrassed about hiding his true identity. "Don't worry about him, he's with us. We should go before they wake up." She offered her hand for you to hold.
"...but Jimin said that the portal closed and wouldn't open until tomorrow."
She let out a short chuckle as she reached out to clutch your hand in hers. "My magic is a bit different..."
Soon, the three of you were consumed by a curtain of grey smoke. It swirled around you like a gentle tornado, blocking your view of both the outside world and each other. Except for the warmth of their hands holding yours, there was no way to tell if they were still beside you.
You couldn't see them.
You couldn't hear them.
But the trust in your heart told you they were right there— like shadows that would never leave your side.
And as the butterflies in your stomach fluttered wildly, you braced yourself for a better tomorrow.
For the new life waiting for you in 'A Whole New World'.
