Saturday afternoon. Sandy's bedroom was dark except for the glow of the computer screen. A pixelated dragon collapsed on screen.

"YES!"

Sandy ripped off his headset. Three hours on that boss. He leaned into the mic. "Nice work, team. Same time next week?"

Crackled voices came back. "Yeah, mate!" "That was epic!"

He signed off, stretched, and headed downstairs. He was starving.

He got halfway down the stairs before he heard it. Not a crash. Not music. A long, collective groan.

"There's nothing to dooooo," Bluey moaned from the living room floor.

Sandy came around the corner. The whole crew was there. Bluey, Bingo, Coco, Indy, Mackenzie, Snickers, Chloe, and Rusty. Scattered across the rug like they'd been dropped from a height.

"We've played every game," Coco said, sitting up. "I tried to start a new one but nobody wanted to play my way."

"That's because your way had forty-seven rules," Mackenzie said flatly.

"They were important rules!"

"One of them was about hats."

Sandy leaned against the doorframe. "You lot look like you've given up on life."

"We're bored," Bluey said. "Really, properly bored."

"Very dramatic boredom. I'm impressed."

"Can you help?" Bingo asked quietly.

Sandy tapped his chin. Then his eyes narrowed. He crouched down and dropped his voice to a whisper.

Everyone went still.

"You know what? You're right. Lying around is boring. What you need... is a proper adventure."

He paused. Let it hang there. Every kid was watching him now.

"Because I just turned into a VELOCIRAPTOR!"

He leaped into the middle of the room, roaring, hands curled into claws.

The room exploded. Kids scattered in every direction.

"Split up!" Rusty called, already moving toward the hallway. He grabbed Mackenzie's arm. "You and me, back door. Go."

"Don't tell me what to do," Mackenzie said, but he was already running.

"Everyone out of the lounge!" Coco yelled, waving her arms. "Follow me! I know a safe route!"

"You don't know a safe route!" Chloe said, running after her anyway.

"I do! Through the kitchen! Trust me!"
