The Heeler playroom was a masterpiece of organized chaos. It wasn't just messy; it was a living, breathing ecosystem of imagination. Cushions formed a mountain range. A blanket thrown over two chairs was a deep, mysterious cave. The beanbag was a quicksand swamp. In the centre of it all, four Heeler children were building separate, spectacular worlds.

"Sector 7 is secure," Sandy announced into a banana he was using as a communicator. At thirteen, he was the general of this operation. "But the alien slime is advancing on the western flank!"

"The blocks are not slime," Indigo corrected quietly, not looking up. The nine-year-old was arranging a line of wooden dominoes with laser-like precision. "They are a harmonic resonance barrier. Very delicate."

"Boring!" Bluey yelled from the summit of Cushion Mountain. The six-year-old was holding Polly Puppy in one hand and a slightly chewed plastic dragon in the other, making them dance. "Polly Puppy is riding the dragon to the sparkly castle! ROAR!"

"The broccoli is a tree," Bingo whispered to herself in the corner. The four-year-old was cradling a single piece of broccoli from last night's dinner. "A magic, whispering tree."

Sandy looked around at his command centre—a fortress made of sofa cushions and a cookie sheet control panel. He held his favourite action figure, Commander Jetstream, who had a newly re-attached arm thanks to some careful glue work.

"Team, we have a problem," Sandy said, adopting his commander voice. "We've got a dragon rider, a science guy, and a gardener all in the same battle. We're all playing different games. We need one big mission or it gets confusing."

"What's confusing?" Bluey asked, sliding down the mountain.

"If we're all pretending different things, it doesn't feel like we're in the same story," Sandy explained. "We have to pretend the same thing at the same time. Then it feels real."

"Okay!" Bluey held Polly Puppy aloft. "Polly Puppy is the star of the story!"

"Negative. Commander Jetstream is the lead," Sandy countered. He gestured to Bingo's broccoli. "That... is the dreaded Vortex Veggie! It's trying to suck all the fun out of the universe!"

Bingo gasped and clutched her broccoli close. "He's not a Vortex! He's Mr. Stalky! He's a nice tree!"

"Let's just initiate the sequence," Indigo said, placing the final domino. He looked at Sandy. "The story will... work itself out."

Sandy sighed. "Fine. Initiate."

Whoosh.

The air in the playroom changed. The sunlight through the window seemed to glow a little brighter.

Sandy wasn't on the rug anymore. He was standing on the bridge of a starship. The walls were smooth, glowing metal. A panoramic viewport showed an endless sea of stars. He was wearing a crisp white uniform with a Commander's badge. A holographic display floated in front of him, showing a pulsing, green planet below.
