Your POV

The room was quiet again. The kind of quiet that buzzed in your ears.

You sat on opposite sides of the couch in the break room, arms crossed, knees bouncing. He was on his phone, scrolling, pretending like this wasn’t the most awkward moment of your life.

"Are you always this loud?" he asked without looking up.

You shot him a glare. "Are you always this... bland?"

His lip twitched—maybe a smirk, maybe irritation.

"I’m not bland," he muttered.

"You literally wear black every day and talk like you're narrating a tax form."

He looked at you then. Really looked.
“I wear black because it’s simple. Predictable.”

You raised an eyebrow. “Like you?”

“No,” he said. “Unlike you.”

Alex’s POV

It slipped out before he could stop himself.
Unlike you.

Colorful. Emotional. Messy.

Beautiful.

He looked away quickly, jaw tight. “You’ve always been… loud. But lately, it’s different.”

You leaned back, trying to look casual. “Yeah? What changed?”

“You,” he said. Quietly. Too honestly.

You blinked. “That’s not an answer.”

He didn’t speak. Just stared again—like he was figuring something out, like there was something he wanted to say but couldn’t.

Your POV

His eyes were too intense. You stood up, trying to break the moment. “Whatever. This is just a stupid mistake. We’ll be out of here soon.”

He got up too. Slowly. Taking a step closer.

You could feel the tension in the air like a storm building.

“Do you really think I hate you?” he asked suddenly.

You froze.
The question wasn’t a tease. It wasn’t sarcastic.
It was... raw.

You blinked up at him. “I don’t know. Maybe. You made it pretty clear how you feel.”

He stepped even closer.

“I don’t hate you,” he whispered.

The space between you shrank. His hand hovered near yours.

You didn’t move.

Neither did he.

Closer...

Almost...

And then—the emergency lights blinked back on.

The spell broke instantly.

You both stepped back like nothing happened. Like it wasn’t about to.
