Daphne lol ^
--------------------
Saturday morning I had Gray, Daphne, and Kim over to my house. Just in case shit hit the fan tonight, I wanted to make sure I spent today with people I cared about. Not that I planned on getting myself killed, but if something went wrong-
"Earth to Jaxon" Kim said, waving her hand in front of my face. "You good, buddy?"
"Uh, yeah" I shrugged. I had been zoning out all morning, and my friends were starting to look concered.
"So, listen guys" I said, clearing my throat. "I wanted to talk to you all about something."
"Oh my god did you finally ask Ava to be your girlfriend?" Daphne asked, eyes buldging.
"Uh, well no."
"Uh oh, are your parents coming home again?" Kim asked.
"No not that I know of-"
"Ava better not be pregnant" Gray sighed.
"YOU GUYS! Can I talk?" They nodded sheepishly.
I crossed my arms, not knowing quite exactly what to say. I'd have to wing it.
"You guys know your my best friends, right?"
They all exchanged glances, and Gray frowned. "Alright spit it out, what's is going on?"
"Yeah no offense Jaxon but you're not the cheesy type and it's freaking me out" Kim said raising an eyebrow.
I couldn't help but smile. They know me too well.
"Some shit may be going down tonight at the races, and I can't say for sure what's going to happen. I might... Well I could-"
"Don't even say it" Daphne snapped. I glanced over at her, and she looked disturbed. Angry even.
"I don't even want to know what you were about to say" she added.
"I do" Gray chimed in, crossing his arms. "What exactly were you about to say? Because if it has anything to do with you getting hurt then you can forget the races."
I sighed, leaning my head back. This was not going well, but how could I blame them? I know my friends worry about me, especially Gray. How could I even utter the words "I might be killed tonight"?
"Answer me" Gray growled, standing up. He came up to me, his face inches away from mine. "Jaxon, what the hell is going on? And don't fucking lie."
"My partner and I are going to kill my boss tonight."
You could hear a feather drop in the room.
Surprisingly, Kim was the first one to bust into tears. "What the hell is the matter with you?" she sobbed, her bright blue eyes boring into me. "You're going to kill someone?"
"You'll get yourself killed before you even get the chance" Daphne peeped, her eyes starting to well up next. "Jaxon, I don't understand..."
I had no idea what to do or say. I was exhausted, I was worried, I was scared, and I hated that I was dragging my friends into something they should have never known about in the first place.
I searched Grays eyes, but they were blank and glazed over. The guy looked like he was about to pass out. I said his named, but he didn't even flinch.
This was a disaster, and I had no idea how to console my friends. I was breaking them.
*Ding Dong*
The doorbell.
"Hello?" a soft voice called from another room.
That snapped Gray back to reality. He whirled around just as Ava stepped into the room. She froze for a moment, her eyes darting over to where I was standing.
"It's okay" I murmured, "we were just talking about-"
"She knows?" Kim interrupted, wiping her eyes. Ava nodded, slowing walking over to me. "I kind of found out accidentally" she replied.
Once again the room was silent, but Ava grabbed my hand, giving me a slight nod. She came here in full support, and I knew it was time to let it all out. My friends needed to know exactly was happening with Ava's sister, and what exactly I was planning to do tonight.
There was not a dry eye in the room when I finished explaining. Even Gray was crying and it was painful to see. I never wanted to be the reason my brother cried.
After what seemed like ages Daphne came up to me, pulling me into a hug. "There's got to be another way" she whimpered, her hug tightening. "I can't lose you"
"Neither can I" Kim sniffled, adding to Daphne's hug. "I know we haven't talked much lately at school... please forgive me. I got so busy with student council but I should have been checking in with you-"
"Kim" I chuckled, leaning my head on hers "Don't apologize. I know you have a lot on your plate." I glanced over at Gray, whose head hung, tears falling to the ground. I knelt down in front of him, laying my hand on his shoulder.
"This all ends tonight man" I said, shaking him a bit. "Please have some faith in me, brother. Trust me Gray."
He looked up, meeting my eyes. "I'm coming to help you" he said, tears streaming down his face. "Don't you dare tell me I can't. I am not going to sit back and let you do this without me. If anything happens to you I will never forgive myself."
"That makes two of us" Ava added. "The more help the better."
"I'm coming too then" Daphne announced, stomping her foot. "I'll be damned before anything happens to any of you" she said. Kim nodded.
There was a point in my life I would have done anything to convince them to stay out of this, but today was different. I realized there was nothing I could do to stop my friends.
They cared about me more than anyone in this world, and I was feeling overwhelmed with gratitude. I watched Daphne run over and hug attack Ava, I watched Kim side eye her sister and roll her eyes, and I watched Gray dry his eyes before pulling me into a hug.
No matter what happens tonight I won't let anything happen to them.
-Saturday, 8pm-
One hour before the race.
One hour before Rogue and I free ourselves and the entire Crimson Blaze from Ace's tyranny.
"I'm going to vomit" Rogue said, laying his head on the handlebars of his bike.
"And I'm going to lose it" Daphne huffed, leaning against Gray's car. "This 'Rogue' guy you always talk about is JET FUCKING BLACKWELL?"
"Can it barbie" Jet snapped, rolling his eyes. "I'm already anxious about tonight and your screechy voice isn't helping."
Outside my house I waited with Jet, Daphne, Kim, Gray, and Ava before the race. We were supposed to be going over the plan one final time, but Jet and Daphne had been going at it the minute he arrived. Jet hated the idea of everyone helping, and Daphne, like usual, would not stop running her mouth.
"I'm just can't believe that you got yourself into this mess Jet-"
"You are not my fucking mom you bobblehead" he snapped again, making Gray step in between them.
"Don't fucking talk to her like that" he growled, which only made Jet roll his eyes. "This is ridiculous" he said. "I'll meet you idiots there. Come on Jaxon, we need to get a move on." He started his bike, leaving the rest of us in his dust.
I noticed Ava had been awfully quiet the whole time, so while Gray tried to calm down a steaming Daphne I took a minute to pull Ava aside.
"Look angel, there is still time to pull out-"
"Not a chance" she interrupted, crossing her arms. "I'm not backing down. I want my sister safe and I'll do anything to make that happen."
I had to admit, her confidence was hot as hell. I smirked, kissing her forehead. "Well alright then Vexheart"
"Alright then Marvel"
"Devil" I corrected her with a wink. I turned away to head to my bike when I heard her phone ring, followed by a gasp.
"Steve!" she exclaimed.
Wonderful, fucking Steve.
"Uh no, I haven't heard from Melissa" she said, biting her lip.
The others had noticed and were all eavesdropping on the conversation.
"Oh I am...I am um.. well-" her closed her eyes, shaking her head. She looked frazzled, and I could see her hands start to shake.
"That's it" I muttered, grabbing her phone.
"No, wait!" she whispered, eyes wide with worry.
"This is Jaxon" I said into the phone.
"Jaxon? What the hell, where is Ava?"
"Clearly with me. I've been keeping her company all day."
"Send her home" he said sternly. "I still haven't heard from her sister so I am going to call the police. I want her here where it's safe."
"Safe" I repeated. If only he knew. "She's safe with me" I said confidently. Ava tried to grab her phone back but I turned the other way, walking down the driveway.
"Jaxon, I said send her home. Now."
Damn the guy was seething.
"Go ahead and call the police, she'll be home in a little while"
"She will be home within the hour"
"You're not in charge of her" I growled. Man this guy annoyed the hell out of me. "She's fine with me, I've been comforting her all day"
"Jaxon when I get to her house she better be there-"
"You're not even at her house?" I asked, "then why the hell should she be there by herself?"
"I'm busy right now, but as soon as I get there I am contacting the police. Drive her home or you're dead."
He hung up.
What the fuck could he be busy with?
"Well fuck him" I said to myself. I walked back over the Ava, handing her phone back. "He's going to call the police tonight, but don't worry about it. We'll have Melissa home in no time. We need to get going."
With that I hopped on my bike, and waited for everyone else to pile into Gray's car, or the getaway car, as that would be its purpose tonight.
It was finally time to send my boss to hell.
[Well it has been literally forever since I updated. I have no excuses, just an apology. I wish I could explain where I have been, but I was going through some really hard shit in my personal life. I am finally starting to come back to myself again, and that means finding my joy in writing once again. I am sorry for the long wait, but I hope to finish this book officially over the next week.
Thank you to anyone who reads this chapter and finishes the book. The support even though I have been gone means the world to me. I hope you all are staying healthy and safe!]
