WATTPAD BOOKS EDITION. There are some friends you never forget. It's the summer of 1955. For Ethan Harper, a biracial kid raised mostly by his white father, race has always been a distant conversation. When he's sent to spend the summer with his aunt and uncle in small-town Alabama, his blackness is suddenly front and center, and no one is shy about making it known he's not welcome there. Enter Juniper Jones. The town's resident oddball and free spirit, she's everything the townspeople aren't-open, kind, and accepting. Armed with two bikes and an unlimited supply of root beer floats, Ethan and Juniper set out to find their place in a town that's bent on rejecting them. As Ethan is confronted for the first time by what it means to be black in America, Juniper tries to help him see the beauty in even the ugliest reality, and that even the darkest days can give rise to an invincible summer . . .

WATTPAD ORIGINAL EDITION In 1955, mixed-race Ethan Harper leaves his progressive hometown for a summer in Alabama where he's not welcome, except by resident free spirit, Juniper Jones. ***** After getting himself into a bout of trouble, 16-year-old Ethan Harper's parents send him to Ellison, Alabama, to live with his aunt and uncle for the summer. But the year is 1955, and Alabama is a far cry from his beloved home of Arcadia, Washington. As much as it's hotter in temperature, it's colder in every other way, and Ethan learns the hard way that people see his mere existence as a threat. Amidst all the mayhem, a fiery, free-spirited, oddball walks into Ethan's life. Her name is Juniper Jones. She is the first person in Ellison who seems unfazed by their racial differences, and she promises to give Ethan a summer he will always remember, filled with endless adventure and discovery. With Juniper, Ethan can breathe, he can be, despite the incessant attention and bullying their newly formed friendship attracts. Can the two survive the summer, run in the light and block out the noise of the outside world? [Published version comes out June 16, 2020 with Wattpad Books!] [[word count: 70,000-80,000 words]]

"Abena why this sudden change?", my mom asked. I think she knew I wasn't going to give her any reply so she continued. "Well your dad and I decided that you will be spending the rest of this vacation with your grandmother, it for the better I hope you understand", she said calmly trying to hide the anger in her tone. ~Β°~ I didn't understand why a city girl like me should be going to the village to mingle with those barbarians. If my parent wanted me to change then why didn't they allow me to be sent to juvenile a long time ago.

This anthology is a mixture between storytelling and poetry. When I write my work, I have the intentions of making people uncomfortable, forcing them to think and reflect upon themselves. This is not going to be your usual poetry collection. In the beginning, I slide a little into some dark humor but after the sixth chapter or so..I really go all in. Sneak peek: Why so aggressive sweetie? Do you have a problem with me? If you do, I don't know why because I haven't done anything. Why so sarcastic sweetie? Do you lack emotion? Is it why you have a blank face even in the morning? Leave me be miss. I'd like to continue to be independent. Then I won't have to depend on you and your selfish lies. Give me space honey. I don't wanna blow up on you. After everything mean you've said and done to me... I wake up from zoning out throughout her rebuttal. Her tone. Her words. I think to myself about when she'll ever stop and I wait for what seems to be forever. It would be nice to cut her off and say what's on my mind. But I stop myself from thinking of that reaction and I give her what she assumed I would do. I hold everything in and walk away after she ends. She thinks that she's hurting me and in some ways she is..but I'm hurting her more by making her think that she is all-powerful when she is not. One day she'll learn but sadly, I'm not the person assigned to teach her.

He was rich. I was...more or less a struggle in the making than poor really. He was kind. I was not, but I didn't care. Kindness never got you anywhere in life. You had to work for what you wanted, and take what was yours before someone else got to it first. I wasn't sad about the way things were. I loved where I lived. I loved what I did. And I especially loved the fact that I could take care of myself without the assistance of someone else. I was a boss; a survivor. Sometimes you had to step on a few toes to make your way up to the top. No one told him to get in my way. No one told him to care about me. Nobody to him to wedge himself into my life. I was fine without him. Truly, I was. But now I need him in more ways than I could've ever imagined. I need him like a swimmer needed a fresh breath of air after being submerged under water. I needed him for better or worse. I needed him in sickness and in health. I needed him for richer or for poorer... Forced to spend the summer of her senior year with her eccentric Auntie Vera, Taylor-Jade is supposed to "find herself" before she's off to college soon. This was a completely different world from the one Jade knew at home in New York. When she runs into Nathan, a local golden boy and heir to the Walters Company Empire, Taylor-Jade does her best to steer clear of him. Some rich, happy-go-lucky, goody-two-shoes was not her definition of a fulfilled summer in Cali. Nathan however, always seemed to find himself in Taylor-Jade's way, the last place any sane person would ever want to be. Can these two manage to make it through the summer without butting heads?

They always say that someone's true beauty is in the inside. Why is that? Why is our true beauty hidden away from others? People could always fake like they're a good person but you can't fake 'pretty'. Why couldn't it be that if you're kind person than you have a lovely face and vice versa. I was what most would consider a good girl; I did my homework and never talked back. That was how I was raised up to be, obedient and smart. People saw me as one of the guys, the darker one. My sisters were diamonds while I was charcoal. ALL PARTS/CHAPTERS BELONG TO ME AND MAY NOY BE STOLEN, REUSED OR COPIED. DOING SO VIOLATES COPYRIGHT LAWS. Β°ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
