His wife passed from cancer 10 years ago, and in his grief and struggle to move on he had many one night stands, resulting in the birth of the twins. A birth he was not aware of. Participating in story pitch challenges has been a really fun exercise to think up new story ideas and strengthen my story description writing skills (although pitches tend to be too long and too detailed for a standard blurb). Under the guise of a simple messenger, Kane - formerly Aru - once more finds himself taking up his spirit name, as he returns once more to the world he could only dream of for two straight years. But though his return sparks excitement within him, that isn't to say his home-world has been devoid of interests. The world of magic now open to him, Kane finds himself enthralled by every facet of knowledge, every oddity, and every person he finds along the way; and so it came as quite the shock when Kane found that even his own close family had magical roots, a fact he only overcame with much difficulty. But nevertheless, he soon finds himself struggling to find his place in the world, both worlds in fact. His life on earth soon takes a backseat however, as in a moment of disaster, Kane quickly finds himself washed up on the beaches of yet another unfamiliar land; all in a bid to retrieve his lost friend, he must now traverse these foreign lands, both for his and his dear friends sake. They will soon discover that nothing is as it seems however, as much like the land they had rescued, so too is the land here ridden with a rot spirits such as themselves were born to fight. Kane will discover many things on his journey, the intricacies of spirits; the complexity of the world around them; the awe inspiring scenery they find themselves surrounded by; but most importantly, they will discover what the one familiar face at their side truly means to them, through tragedy or otherwise. But as night falls, Aru will realise something. If it starts with a storm. So too will it end with one.

The first alarm went off before sunrise. Phoenix didn't flinch. She'd been expecting it for days-ever since the notice on her wristband started flashing red. AGE REGRESSIVE DETECTED: MANDATORY CARE INTAKE - LEVEL 3. The words had burned themselves into her skin like a brand. By the time the Recovery Unit kicked down her apartment door, she was already wearing combat boots and a glare that could cut glass. "You're not taking me in," she warned. The tallest guard-armored, faceless-didn't even respond. A tranquilizer needle hissed in his hand. Phoenix hurled the first thing she could reach-a kitchen knife-and bolted toward the fire escape. The city outside was still wrapped in fog, the old billboards flickering with the Ministry's slogan: "CARE IS CONTROL. CONTROL IS SAFETY." She didn't make it down two steps before the needle hit her shoulder. The world folded in half.

Marcus arrives at yet another job interview, bracing himself for disappointment. Surrounded by confident, well-dressed candidates who seem to glide effortlessly through life, he feels out of place and invisible. The room reeks of wealth, connections, and opportunity-things he doesn't have. As names are called and others move ahead, Marcus struggles to keep hope alive. Each rejection chips away at him, his certificates and hard work feeling meaningless. When the man in the suit finally announces that the company has found the candidate they were looking for, Marcus' frustration boils over. He pleads, begs, and clings to the man in desperation, but is met with cold dismissal and humiliation. By the end of the chapter, Marcus is left alone in the rain, shivering and soaked, facing the harsh reality of a world that seems indifferent to his effort, dreams, and suffering. This opening sets the tone for a story about resilience, societal injustice, and the emotional weight of repeated failure.
