Tanjiro actually noticed Genya's feelings and tried to help Muichiro realize how important Genya was to him. After thinking about everything, Muichiro realizes the person he always wants beside him isn't Tanjiro. It's Genya. In the end, the two finally admit their feelings, changing their relationship from lifelong best friends to something much deeper.
