Genya and Muichiro have been best friends for years at school. Even though they have very different personalities-Genya being loud and short-tempered while Muichiro is quiet and distant-they always stick together. Everyone at school is used to seeing them side by side, and Genya secretly believes Muichiro will always choose him first. One day, a new transfer student named Tanjiro joins their class. Tanjiro is kind, friendly, and quickly becomes close with Muichiro. The two start spending more time together during lunch, working on school assignments, and talking after class. At first Genya tells himself it's nothing. Muichiro can have other friends. But the more he sees them together, the more it bothers him. Muichiro starts walking home with Tanjiro instead of Genya. They laugh together in ways Genya has never seen before.,Soon rumors spread around school that Tanjiro and Muichiro might like each other. Genya becomes jealous and starts distancing himself, even though he doesn't fully understand why Muichiro getting close to someone else hurts so much. Everything finally explodes when Genya confronts Muichiro after school. In the middle of their argument, Genya blurts out the truth he didn't even realize himself: He's not just afraid of losing his best friend. He's in love with Muichiro Muichiro is shocked, but Tanjiro later reveals something important-he never liked Muichiro romantically. Tanjiro actually noticed Genya's feelings and tried to help Muichiro realize how important Genya was to him. After thinking about everything, Muichiro realizes the person he always wants beside him isn't Tanjiro. It's Genya. In the end, the two finally admit their feelings, changing their relationship from lifelong best friends to something much deeper.
