I nervously sipped my mimosa, tapping the side of the glass with my nail as I glanced toward the entrance of the restaurant. I had asked Solange and Mama Tina to meet me for brunch... just us. No Bey. I needed their energy, their support... and honestly, their guidance.
Solange walked in first, sunglasses on, looking effortlessly cool in a matching linen set and sandals like she floated instead of walked. Mama Tina followed behind her with a warm smile, looking as radiant as always in a burgundy silk blouse and gold hoops.
"Look at you," Mama Tina said as she kissed my cheek and sat down across from me. "Got us all dressed up."
Solange raised a brow, smirking. "I'm shocked Beyoncé let you leave the house."
I laughed, cheeks warming. "Yeah, it wasn't easy."
We ordered our food quickly, keeping it light. French toast, fruit, eggs, and endless tea for Mama Tina. I didn't waste any time once we settled in.
"Okay," I exhaled. "I asked you both here for something important... something I've been thinking about for a while now."
Both of them leaned in slightly. I could feel my heart pick up pace.
"I want to propose to Beyoncé."
Solange gasped softly, placing a hand over her chest. Her face broke into the widest grin. "I knew this was coming. I knew it."
Mama Tina's face lit up. "Oh baby," she said, reaching across the table to squeeze my hand. "That's beautiful."
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. "I love her so much. And everything just feels right."
"So, tell us..." Mama Tina said, leaning forward. "What's the plan?"
"That's the thing," I admitted, chuckling nervously. "I know I want to fly somewhere... make it special, romantic. But I'm not sure where yet, or how to do it exactly. I want it to feel personal."
Solange gave me a sly smile. "You already got the love part down. The rest? That's just details. And we can help with that."
Mama Tina nodded, then narrowed her eyes playfully. "Alright, so what about the ring?"
I winced. "That's my next step."
"Well," Mama Tina said, standing up and pulling out her phone like a woman on a mission. "You've got the right person in your corner now."
"Wait, what are you doing?" I asked, already nervous.
"Calling Lorraine." she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Lorraine?" I asked
"Lorraine Schwartz." said Solange
She put the phone on speaker. "Lorraine, sweetie, it's Tina. We've got a little emergency on our hands—my future daughter-in-law is about to propose, and we need to make some magic happen. Can we meet?"
Solange and I both burst into laughter.
Mama Tina winked. "You're marrying a Knowles, baby. We don't do small."
Mama Tina's living room looked like the lobby of a luxury boutique that morning.
Lorraine Schwartz didn't come to play... she came prepared, like a jeweler to the stars should. The coffee table was lined with velvet trays, each one holding diamonds that sparkled like they had their own heartbeat. Emerald cuts. Cushion cuts. Halo settings. Stones big enough to make someone pass out. It was overwhelming in the best way.
I stood there taking it all in, trying not to let my jaw drop.
Mama Tina gave my arm a little nudge. "Come on now. Don't be shy."
