The sliding doors opened, and the sound of cheers erupted instantly. "Surprise!" The whole family was inside the rental, the space glowing with warm lights, balloons spelling out Congrats hanging across the back wall. Mama Tina stood front and center, tears in her eyes as she clapped. Kelly and Michelle were grinning ear to ear, Solange holding up her phone to capture every second.
Beyoncé froze at the threshold, her hands flying to her mouth as tears immediately spilled over. She let out the softest, most shocked laugh, and then turned to me with those honey-brown eyes glistening like they always did when she was overwhelmed.
"Oh my God," she whispered, her voice breaking.
Mama Tina was the first one to reach her daughter, pulling her into an embrace so tight it looked like she never wanted to let go. Her own tears were flowing now, her voice trembling as she whispered, "My baby... I'm so happy for you."
Then her attention snapped to me. I barely had time to react before she hugged me just as fiercely, whispering in my ear, "Thank you for loving her the way she deserves."
That hit different. I hugged her tighter, my throat tightening. "Always. That's a promise."
Kelly and Michelle weren't far behind, their squeals making Beyoncé laugh through her tears. "Finally!" Kelly teased, fanning her face dramatically. "Girl, you had us waiting!"
Michelle chimed in, "We been praying for this, okay? Look at God!"
The room was filled with laughter and clinking glasses as someone... probably Solange handed Beyoncé a tall flute of sparkling juice, and I got a quick hug from both Kelly and Michelle, each whispering how happy they were for us.
As everyone swirled around us, congratulating and celebrating, I took a moment just to watch her. Beyoncé was glowing—not just pregnancy glowing, but love glowing, happiness glowing. She looked like everything good in this world wrapped up in one perfect soul. And she was mine. My fiancée. Damn, I could get used to saying that.
Solange eventually slipped over to me, phone in hand, grinning like the Cheshire cat. "Congrats, sis-in-law," she said, pulling me into a hug. "You really did that."
I laughed, shaking my head. "I had to make it special."
She gave me a playful side-eye. "Special? Girl, you set the damn bar on fire. You better keep her happy."
I held her gaze, serious now. "Always. That's a promise."
She softened, her teasing smile fading into something real. "I know. You're good for her. I've never seen her like this."
As the night rolled on, laughter filled the rental. Champagne for everyone but Bey, sparkling juice for her.
Across the room, Bey was leaning against the couch, talking to Mama Tina and Angie. She looked so damn good. But it wasn't just her beauty that had my attention. It was the look.
Those eyes. Slow, seductive, heavy-lidded eyes locked on me like a magnet.
I swallowed, shifting in my seat as her lips curled into the slightest smirk, tongue sliding out to wet them in the most deliberate way possible. That woman knew exactly what she was doing.
Kelly noticed me zoning out and followed my line of sight. "Ohhh," she whispered with a grin. "That's the 'wrap it up' look."
"Girl," Solange laughed, sipping her wine, "That's the come get me now look."
I chuckled, rubbing the back of my neck. "Y'all nosy as hell."
"You love it," Kelly teased, giving me a wink.
