after a few more hours of drinking, gossiping and unnecessary touching between sofia and ant, the group finally spilled out of missy's house and into waiting taxis, all headed toward the slayball. sofia was, as always, sandwiched between ant and spider in the back seat of the uber, missy claiming the passenger seat so she could gossip relentlessly to the driver like he was her personal therapist. spider had his entire upper body leaning out the window, eyes watering, knuckles white on the door as he fought the urge to vom. "fresh air, fresh air," he muttered like it was a spell keeping him alive. sofia was leant slightly more towards ant, just incase spider lost the battle. missy spent the whole ride gossiping to the driver, who, bless him, pretended to care.

ant took advantage of the chaos: spider groaning at the window, missy ranting about an ex, the driver nodding politely. he slid his hand into sofia's under the cover of the dark car, tugging gently until her fingers laced with his, and pressed his mouth close to her ear. he leaned in, breath warm against the shell of her ear. "can we talk later?"

she turned to him faster than he expected, faces nearly brushing. she could feel the brush of his nose against her cheek. her breath caught at the closeness, the same static from dusty's bedroom sparking again. she nodded once, unable to look away. he smirked slightly, relieved.

when the car stopped, spider immediately stumbled out, hands on his knees, swearing softly as the driver wished them all good luck like they were going into battle. missy blew a kiss to the man before skipping ahead, leading the group toward the long line stretching outside the venue. neon lights lit up the street. music thumped deep from inside the building. the queue wrapped around the block. they spotted familiar faces instantly.

malakai waved them over, amerie stood beside him, quiet but obviously giddy, their shoulders brushing every few seconds like magnets they couldn't keep apart. quinni bounced on her toes, glitter smeared beautifully across her eyelids.

"sof!" darren called and instantly threw their arms around her in a warm, lingering hug, one that said i'm sorry about this morning without having to mention it. she hugged them back, grateful for the silent understanding.

sofia burst out laughing when she finally clocked ca$h, who was wearing a thong stretched dramatically across one eye like an eye patch.

"is this your best attempt at being gay?" she asked through laughter.

ca$h shrugged. "it's camp, babes."

the group slowly shuffled forward in the line, buzzing, stumbling, laughing, clinging to each other for balance. malakai couldn't stop grinning at amerie. amerie kept pretending not to notice. quinni narrated everything like it was a documentary. darren hyped everyone up. sasha flirted with the bouncer despite being nowhere near the front.
