Ashes is a collection surrounding the decay of the aftermath. The ruin that exists without apology. These works give voice to the quiet at the end, when all else fails. The solemn feeling of goodbye, coiled with the start of something new.

Leafdancer is now free of the spell that still binds Nightjewel and Bladehand, and Phina has her memories back. Ashes is reluctantly absorbing the soul of Vesynt along with the other man's memories, and he has learned that he is the champion of the El Demons. He must fight the champion of the Nop Demons to decide the fate of his world. The problem is that the Nop champion is Erantonop, the leader of the Nops himself, and he has Ashes' original soul. Onohiel, leader of the Els, has sworn that Erantonop will be forced to conform to the rules of the contest between champions, but demons never were very good at keeping promises.
