L'orrore dentro questo racconto, l'enorme follia che si cela dietro un'apparenza benigna, si ispira parecchio ai classici di Lovecraft cercando di carpirne il meglio e proiettandolo nell'ambientazione "Sardegna". Charlie's life is a mess. His music career is a joke, his dead-end job barely pays rent, and his ex-girlfriend finally got tired of waiting for him to get his act together. He's broke, hungover, and one bad week away from losing what little he has left. Then the weird shit starts. It's small at first-strange noises, objects moving when he isn't looking, shadows where there shouldn't be any. He tries to ignore it. That works until something claws its way into his apartment-something very real, very angry, and very not supposed to be here. Charlie doesn't know why his crappy apartment has become a magnet for whatever's creeping in from the dark, but he does know one thing: he's not going down without a fight. With a mix of desperation, dumb luck, and whatever weapons he can get his hands on, he finds himself doing the one thing he never expected-hunting demons. And he's weirdly good at it. But the deeper he gets, the stranger things become. Something bigger is moving beneath the surface, and whether he likes it or not, Charlie's already in too deep. Too bad he's never been great at quitting while he's ahead.

Arrivati al castello, un'enorme costruzione gotica avvolta dalla nebbia, si accorgono subito che qualcosa non quadra: non c'è campo sui cellulari, le porte si chiudono dietro di loro e nessun padrone di casa si fa vedere. Al loro posto, trovano enigmi, indovinelli e prove inquietanti, tutti legati a leggende vampiresche. All'inizio ridono e sospettano che uno del gruppo sia il colpevole, ma presto gli scherzi diventano sadici: porte che si chiudono di colpo, stanze che si riempiono di gas, illusioni che li fanno dubitare della realtà, e la presenza di ombre e sussurri che non sembrano umani. Ogni notte il castello li mette alla prova, alimentandosi delle loro paure più intime. Più passa il tempo, più il "gioco" assume un tono mortale. Il Conte non si mostra mai, ma lascia indizi del suo controllo: voci che riecheggiano, scritte di sangue sui muri, e un antico orologio che scandisce i sette giorni della loro permanenza.
