The mansion was a storm

The mansion was a storm.

Doors slammed, footsteps thundered across the marble floors, and Russian filled the air as guards barked orders to one another.

My chest tightened when I saw Alana holding Leo as she walked down the stairs while Sergei closely followed behind her with their suitcases.

"Did you pack everything this time, Angel?" He asked her and she smiled before nodding.

We had just returned from Russia after they remarried.

"I did," she answered as I turned to look outside.

Even most of the guard dogs were leaving, led out by two of the younger guards.

I turned back to see Alana and Sergei heading my way.

"You can still come, you know?" Sergei told me. "There is a seat for you on our plane."

I rolled my eyes before turning my back to them. "I said no."

"For what?" He snapped.

"Sergei!" Alana shouted.

I turned back to him.

"My brother is coming back and when he does, I need to be here to meet him," I argued. "I can't just move away. He's the only family I have left."

"But we're a family," Alana said softly with a small smile.

I glared at her. "And Ryan is apart of my family."

I could see the hurt all over her face before Sergei cleared his throat.

I looked down.

I didn't mean to hurt them.

They are so good to me, but I refuse to get attached to them.

They're about to move half way across the world.

A credit card appeared in front of me before I looked up to see Sergei holding it out.

"Take care of yourself," he said.

"It's fine," I refused. "You've already given me a place to stay."

He took my hand before forcing me to hold it.

"I've already paid all of your tuition for that private school," he said. "You start on next Monday. No fights."

"Does this mean I can be a guard when I'm done from that school?" I asked and he nodded.

A big smile appeared on my face.

"It's okay if you change your mind about being a guard," Alana warned me, but I shook my head.

"I won't," I said and she nodded before hugging me.

"I'll come visit you," she said as she held back tears. "And make sure you do the same."

I nodded as I looked down at Leo.

He was sleeping, so I gave him a forehead kiss. "Bye, Leo."

I looked up at Sergei and began to stretch for a handshake, but he pulled me into a hug instead.

I was caught off guard, but I hugged him back. "If you need anything else call Alex. He'll take care of you."

I nodded as we released. "I will."

I looked down at their suitcases and began to feel emotional.

"You guys should go," I said coldly. "The others are waiting on you."

I know they didn't want me to stay.

They tried to convince me multiple times about coming with them.

But I just can't.

So the least I could do is keep my promise to Sergei and go to this shitty prep school for ten months then we'll be even.

They hugged me again before walking to their black SUV.

When everyone had left, I closed the door before sliding my back down the door until I reached the ground.

It was just me now.

"It's just ten months," I repeated to myself over and over until I fell asleep.

...
