Cassian's POV

Sophie and I sat in silence as I reviewed the practice test that I gave her.

"So?" She finally asked. "How did I do?"

I put down the paper before looking at her.

"You got all right," I told her and she smiled.

I checked the time on my watch and it was nine o'clock.

Raven still hasn't come home yet.

"I guess your tutoring is helping," Sophie said and I returned my attention to her.

"It's not my tutoring," I told her. "You're smart. You don't need my help. You just need confidence."

She frowned. "You give me confidence."

"I do?" I asked, confused.

She nodded.

"I don't even know how, considering the fact that I get so shy around you," she said softly.

The front door opened before Raven barged in.

She ignored the two of us before storming upstairs.

Was she really still mad at what I said earlier?

What I'm doing is clearly helping Sophie.

"What-what is she doing here?" Sophie asked, her face in disbelief.

I ran my hand through my hair, trying to push Raven out of my thoughts and concerns.

"She's sorting through some family issues," I vaguely said.

"And she has to do it here?" She asked and I silently nodded.

"My parents don't mind," I explained.

"Wow, you and your family are super generous," she smiled and I smiled back.

However, my mind kept going back to Raven.

Did she get into another fight with her parents again?

Is she still struggling to accept that Ryan and Selene are her parents?

Or was I the cause of her anger this time?

"You should go," I said. "Your parents are probably wondering where you are."

She nodded as she stood up. "Yeah...I'll see you at school."

I walked her to the door before waving goodbye.

When I closed the door, I went to make two cups of chamomile tea.

The warmth of the mugs in my hands and the soothing, floral scent felt like a small comfort.

This should calm her down.
